Hummmm Noise 2000 RX300
Hi,
When the car is in Drive, window close, radio off and with the foot on
the brakes at stand still, I hear a quite loud humming noise. When I
shift to N, then the noise goes down to normal. I've checked the idle
and it's normal. I brought the car to Lexus and they said that it might
be the engine mount and that it will cost $800 to fix. They show me
that when the car is tilled, they used a hydr jack and lifted the front
end up and down. When it was lifted to a little, the noise goes away
and when higher or lowered, the noise comes back. Are they right on this
issue and is the $800 price fair? Thanks Frankie

happens to my car sometimes...i just let it warm up...ive noticed that it only does it when i park my car certain ways...it's weird, but i'm not worried about my engine mount.
I have no other problems with my rx, and I would not invest 800$ in something that useless...i mean, what are the odds that your engine mount will go...

I never think $800 USD is fair for anything.
When you have a busted or even just a faulty engine mount, there is a much bigger noise than a hum...you'd know believe me. I know where all of these mounts on are on the RX300, and that main one in front. A few years ago I took my RX300 in for an alignment at Toyota (occasionally I like to take a trip over there to see how they do things) and one of the supposed master mechanics commented to me that the mounts looked like they were going to go. A few years later, nothing...nada...zilch.
Pass on the $800 just like miniround mentioned.
