Anyone have a problem with sludge in the engine? Read about this problem in the Edmunds forum. People have sludge in their engines only after 18K miles.

Make sure they are changing the filter!
Not for nothing but I find the oil filter a pain to get at on the RX and I also found out the hard way that if the local oil change guys think its not worth the trouble they pretend to replace the filter. Keep an eye on these guys. Mark the old filter with a marker... then check if they replaced the filter you paid for.
I also dont trust the long oil change intervals on the new cars. If you use non synthetic oil change it every 3K mi.

Oil drain plug access is easy. If anything is difficult, it is the darn oil filter on RX.
Isn't the engine the same on RX, ES and Avalon? Should have a long history.

The oil filter is difficult to be reach. I have small hands but still need at least 15 minutes to find a good position in order to loose it.
I think the location of oil filter is kind of unreasonable...

found a good way an easy way to take the oil filter out. worked for me you should try it, Unscrew the two screws out that holds the "Relay Fuse Box" to the frame near the radiator, then you have more room for you arm and have leverage on the the damn oil filter.
