I just had an ignition coil go out on my #5 cylindar. The dealership here charged me $151 for the one ignition coil, plus the scanning and labor charges for a total of $280

My question, I found ignition coils for the 2WD RX-300 '99 made by Wells on Autozone's website for $60/coil. Is there that big of a difference on the brand of ignition coils? Has anyone ever used this Well's ignition coil?

I also did a search for ignition coils, and found this ignition coil for $88 here:

The dealer provided coil matches your existing coils electronically and physically. There is much less tendency to damage other expensive "ignition" components using OEM parts...

Personally, you purchased a first time correct repair at a reasonable price for a locally available part...

Wells is a major electrical component manufacturer. They make a lot of oem parts as well. I would not hesitate using their parts. You paid for the dealer to diagnois and repair. Their profitability comes from the combination of parts and labor. Sure you could have done it for less but how much time and grief did you save yourself? Hind sight is always 20/20.

I had to use a a modified Camry ignition coil (we had to sand down some plastic to get it to fit) here in Mexico, while I waited for the RX coil to come from the states (I need my vehicle and renting a car here is so expensive) and it worked, but having the RX coil in place, I noticed there was slight improvement.

The RX coils don't go out that often, so I would get OEM in this case.
