I'm about to move to Los Angeles from Houston and was wondering if I should wait to buy in LA. Does the California RX contain California emissions or do all RX's meet the California requirement? If there is a CA emission RX, how much difference does it make? Any other differences that I'm missing?
Anyone know if the deals are better in Houston or Los Angeles? How much is the registration fee in CA? I know that I'll eventually have to pay it, but if I can put it off a year. Registration in Texas is around $75.
TIA

I was not much impressed by Houston dealers 2+yrs back looking for my RX.
Do you intend to drive it or ship it to California? Check with the big So Cal dealerships for best price.

If you decide to buy in California, I highly recommend Longo Lexus of El Monte. They were the only dealer that was willing to negotiate over the phone and actually meet my buying price!

I will probably end up buying in CA. I don't plan on driving from Houston to LA and put 1500 mile on my new RX. So my only other option is shipping it, and that's probably going to cost $1000 or so.

Considering that your negotiated price is not likely to vary more than a few hundred $ from one dealership to another, stick with the one who has the best reputation for service. That’s the relationship you will live with. Although nationwide Lexus service has a great reputation, YMMV!

I've lived in California for 14 years now (San Francisco area). It's my understanding that most new cars meet the CA emissions standards so I don't think you'll have a problem.
When I moved to CA from TX, there was a Goldenrod tax. Vehicles purchased outside of CA were subjected to a pretty steep import tax. The rules have changed....you can check out http://www.dmv.ca.gov/ which is the main DMV site and specifically http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures...onresident.htm - pay attention to Vehicle License Fee and Use Tax.
You can probably find CA emissions info also - look for SMOG stuff.
Hope this helps!

Jack,
taking into all factors in consideration, i would advice you get the car in LA. we have sooo many dealers here, consumers such as us usually ended up going home smiling. as most said, LONGO is one of the best, if not the best. i know the fleet manager personally, and GM too. let me know by PM me if you need any assisitance in the future.
the only small draw back is that LONGO sell so many cars, their discounted prices are pretty much fixed. plus, their cars move out so fast, sometimes you might not get the color and price you want at the moment you want your car.
