Hey guys! I'm new.

I just recently got a 1999 RX300 4-WD (gift from my man). I love it! I never understood why my husband was so fascinated by upgrading his cars (1999 SVT Contour and 1987 Pontiac Fiero) until now. He's showing me all the things I can do to my new baby! I was driving a honda civic before. We're expecting in November, and he refused to buy a mini-van. Lucky me!

He's already ordered a replacement grill and one of those front bars from Rod Millen Motors. I think I now want wider wheels! The ones on there now (225-70-16) look like car wheels. I saw the wheels on a Mercedes SUV yesterday, and I think that size would look fantastic on the RX300.

Just how wide can I go w/out having to get bigger rims? My husband won't get me new rims, but he says he'll buy me wider tires. I think the Mercedes has 255-65-16's. Will this fit on the RX300?

My husband has 18" rims on his SVT and they rub whenever we have more than 2 people in the car. Will 255-65's rub?

Help!! I want to strike before my husband spends the next "car budget" on something for one of his cars!!

 Wider Tires follow up: I took in to NTB to see if Michelin LTX/MS 255/65/16 would fit on the original 16" rim. Guess what, it did! The RX looked great; a little higher, wider, and more muscular. However, because I have the front brush guard, the tires did rub against the metal of these gurards on sharp corners. I had to go back to the originals. For those of you who don't have these metal guards, I think it should work fine. No need for the spacers. There is approx 1/2" (front) and 1/4" (back) clearance from the struts. If you decide to get them replaced, don't forget to replace the spare also if you have an AWD. Being an all time four wheel drive, the diameter for all tires must be the same. There is approx 0.7" difference between the two. Also regarding the spare, even though it will fit in the back of the trunk, the cover will not close properly. You may need a velcro, or some other means. It shouldn't rattle, since it is carpeted. It was 2hrs well spent.

I know others have used 255/55/18 Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires without spacers. I don't know the impact it will have on acceleration and where will they put the big size spare.

Hope that helps
