folks need help..
I have a 99 rx300 the key came out of the lock cylinder while in the acc position and now when inserted will not move to on or lock position. I believe my best option will be to remove the lock cyylinder from the overall ignition housing and either have the tumblers serviced or the cylinder and keys replaced with new. I have the panels etc..removed and have the cylinder exposed. I am trying to figure out the method to release the lock/key cylinder from the barrell housing. I see what looks like a locking white plastic pin on top but not sure how to release it...dont want to break it trying...does anyone have experience removing the cylinder ?? much thanks

I don't have any experience with what you are describing on an RX (and hope I never have an issue like that down here). I have seen my uncle do this in other modern cars and it is not impossible from what you are describing. A pain though.

Bumping this up because I am at the same place. 99 Rx300, Pulled the key out when is ACC and now ignition key cylinder stuck in ACC position. I'm trying to get it out so I can take it to a locksmith. There is a white plastic piece on top. Also seems to be a squarish hole underneath, about an inch down the cylinder; I pushed a nail in there but didn't hear any "click ."Also, not sure what to pull out, the key? The larger cylinder? Do I need to have the battery connected, or push on the brake? Or, if there is another solution... Any help will be appreciated.

When I thought I might have to remove the cylinder I did a search and as I recall I found explicit instructions on how to do this; however, as I went another route, I never actually did it.

I have the entire assembly that was removed from my car when the repair/replacement was done by the dealer. I'll play with it and if I figure it out, will advise.

Bingo! Success. Disconnect battery (probably not necessary but is advised). Put key in 'ACC' position. Depress the little silver button on bottom of cylinder housing which is at approximately 6-7 o'clock while facing the ignition switch. Button is 1 1/2 inches behind the front surface of the ignition switch cylinder. Pull on key; should come out.

The button is recessed. Look very closely with a flashlight and you should see it. If not, PM me and I'll try to text you one.

No, the button releases a 'catch' that keeps the cylinder in place. Put the key in 'acc' then depress this button, and by pulling out with the key the lock cylinder will come out. In order to depress the button it will take a small screwdriver or something like that.

Here is a pic from underneath, that is the button? Does the button lock the key in place so it can pull out the cylinder? I push on it with an allen wrench but there no click or anything and the key just pulls out.

Yes, that recess is where the button is. With the key in the 'ACC' position, and while depressing that button with a small nail, screwdriver, allen wrench etc. the entire lock cylinder can be withdrawn by pulling on the key. If it doesn't work then either your key isn't properly in 'ACC,' you are not depressing the button far enough, or something is broken.

Maybe try turning the key further than 'ACC' before pulling it out (with button depressed.)
