Considering doing the 60k tune up myself RX300
Seems ridiculas for the $ dealers/mechanics charge. From what I see, the only hard parts is the tranny/transaxle and rear diff fluid changes. The rest is just "check" this/that etc...
Question. The fluids specificed is oem Toyota stuff. Which from what I read is VERY good. So I would prefer to use this. But where is the cheapest dealer to buy from?
Question: Getting the service manuals is expensive. Any of you know where to get discounted ones? Ebay is non-existant but they do have those "CD" versions. Any good?

The CD version is better to get than the paper version. It will be faster to look things up on it. Then you can print out only the pages you need.

Try this: http://techinfo.toyota.com/
There is a fee but it's well worth it...and you can print the specific pages you want to work with.
You might want to try Carson Toyota (www.l-tunedparts.com) or Irontoad or etc for the OEM fluids.

Amazing who you come across! What's up?
Anyway, I'll be using this as a reference. Very nice site. Hope to contribute some $ or articles sometime.

DIY 60,000 mile service
My wife's 2000 RX300 [ 55,000 miles ] will probably be past the 6-year Certified Warranty next April. She has insisted that it get all of the oil/filter changes at the Lexus dealer while inder warranty. After that I'll do all of the maint. on it, as I've done on all of our other vehicles. When I took it in for service in June I asked the service rep. at the dealership what the charge was for the 60,000 mile service AND just what is done at that time. She said the charge of the 60,000 service was about $500.00 but she couldn't tell me exactly what was done. AMAZING! I checked the owners' manual and it seems as though the cost of parts MIGHT be about $80-$100, with MAYBE 2-3 hours work. AMAZING! I've been a GM tech for too many years to LET them do that to me. It seems as though many Lexus dealers think the that the owners are $tupid. There are 3 Toyota dealers in our area and one of them is owned by the same person who owns the ONLY 2 Lexus dealers in eastern Virginia. Guess which Toyota dealer refuses to do any Lexus service work of ANY kind?
