Default Quietest Tire For RX300?

Hi Gang,

2001 rx300, 40K miles, GY Integrities are wearing out. The thing I hate about them is that on concrete (not asphalt) freeways, they *roar*. I live in the SF Bay area, mild climate, no offroading (2wd).

What's the smoothest, quietest tire for me?

thx,

bob

The OEM Bridgestones are quiet. They don't last long, though. I am sure they are better tires than your integrities.

I have looked into replacement and have considered Yokohama Geolandars. Their tread pattern is similar to the OEM bridgestones. I have no experience with them.

I have Dunlop Radial Rovers. They are noisy.

I have Yokes and they are far far far better than my OEM Bridgestone Dueller. Last winter was the first with Yokes and I didn't had to dread driving when it snowed........ unlike the OEM tires.

Get the OEM Bridgestone Dueler H/T 687. It is the most quiet tire in the market. Lexus put GY I on some RX to save money. The Dueler performs poorly in snow & ice, but that's not an issue in San Francisco. Just put on chains to cross the Sierra.

Thanks, Guys

Is it fair to say the Bridgestone Dueler H/T 687's are quieter than the Michelin Cross Terrains?

thx

bob

Correct.

Go to your local library and check the tire review in the November 2004 issue of Consumer Reports, then decide for yourself.

According to CR, they both rate "good" for noise with the Dueler getting a good for ride and the Michelin CT getting a "fair" rating". 2 other Michelins, the Sears XC LT4 and the LTX scored "very good" on noise, even though on Michelins web site, the CT is rated as a quieter tire!

It's not the same Dueler H/T. CR reviewed the Dueler 684. The OEM 687 and 684 are two slightly different animals. 687 is more quiet but less capable in snow. Hope this helps.

The same applies to CT, I understand 225 and 235 are different animals.

I had OEM Bridgestones on the '02 and they were very quiet. My new Cross Terrains are just as quiet if not quieter. I love them.

Look at those ratings very closely, to get specific models. I vaguely recall that the Dunlop Radial Rover A/T rated good for noise as well. I was surprised at this rating, because of the aggressive, trucky tread pattern. I am happy with them, but they are much noisier than the OEM Bridgestone Duellers.
