I have herd the the RX navigation system only functions when the car is stationary. I have been in Acura's MDX with the nav and it's like a visual/talking road map. If the RX is non-functioning when your driving, what good is it? The person that says this was driving a leased 2001 RX. Maybe it was mal-functioning.

For safety some vehicles only allow changing destinations (routes) with the tranny in PARK. I don't have NAV on my RX, so some one else will have to confirm this ... The only destination you can change in DRIVE is HOME.
While most agree that it is a nice safety feature, but I have heard arguments that what if the passenger is the person who manipulates the NAV system?

Nav
RX Navigation system *function* at all times and just like the MDX its a visual/talking road map. What is different is that MDX nav lets you change you destination while the car is in motion whereas the RX nav lets you do that only when the vehicle is stationary. I have an RX with nav and I personally think that this is a good safety feature, since its easy to get carried away and play around too much with the nav.

I have a '01 RX300 with Nav. I love the system, except
when it insists on taking "long-cuts" instead of short-cuts.
At first, I was annoyed by the system's refusal to
allow adding new destinations while moving. However,
now I think it is a must-have safety feature.
Of course, there's a very simple solution: add the
voice control feature to the nav system. (like on the
LS430)

Neil,
It's not possible to add the voice control feature
to the RX's nav system. I'm suggesting that Lexus
include this feature in the 2002 RX300s or perhaps
the next-generation RX300...
possible uses for me...

"nearest doughnut shoop"
computer's response:

suspension load sensors, you need to
loose another 10 pounds"
