How to tighten the sun visor?

Any one knows how to tighten the flip-down sun visor (passenger side)?

Thanks in advance.

I think you're better off installing a brand new visor :(

There was another thread on this I think, and my visors are getting a bit looser after just 2 years, this isn't good for me for long-term vehicle retention. I might try injecting some sort of foam or glue along the rod to tighten the visor in a year or two if needed. I don't like these seeming friction-based devices without obvious tightening mechanisms. AND I can't see how to relace the visors!

The visors on my RX get used exessively ... rain or shine, hot or cold I use the sun shade (solar reflector) to keep out uv. Passenger side visor gets extra work out due to love realtionship of the mirror and Mrs :) . I also run the RX with +3psi of tire pressure which makes the cab bounce a bit more.

So for those of us that use the visors a lot and I do too here, is there any way to tighten them up?

Very poor design

I replaced the driver side sun visor 2 years ago and it is loose already. The passenger side was just replaced at a cost of $206. I hope it lasts longer then 2 years. I am curently arguing with Lexus about their ******y design

Wow, that's a lot of one visor. Mine gets used 5x/week also b/c of the sunshade, but I've never had that problem yet.

Wouldn't it be covered under warranty??

sun visor

The drivers side was covered under warranty, but the passenger side happened in 2005 so the car was out of warranty. I spoke to Lexus and tried to convince them it was a safety related issue but they said they already gave me a courtesy repair for a faulty fuel gauge after the warranty expired. That gas gauge repair was done in 2004 and the problem just reacurred this past week. Yes, "The constant pursuit of perfection" must have missed my car. But in all fairness, I have a 2004 LS430 Ultra and it's magnificent. The price of the visors are really pricey but my dealer gives me 20% off parts. Still, on fixed income, it's high.

Fuel Gauge

CaptBud, would you post here or on a new thread the fuel gauge problem with some specifics, with a 2003 I am interested inthe problem.

fuel gauge and visor

I was contacted by Lexus today to discuss the sun visor problem and the lack of durability with the latest replacement. They asked what I would like and I told them a new 330. Well, that went over like a lead balloon so I told them I would be satisfied with another new drivers sunvisor and I would hope it lasts longer then 2 years. BTW, this is a '99 RX300 with only 35,000 miles.
The fuel gauge problem was supposed to be fixed by installing a new sending unit. It sorta worked for a while but the only way I could get it to indicate full was to fill the sucker to the very top. Otherwise it indicated some amount less then full. Now however, it is only indicating 3/4 when full. I hope Lexus will fix this also. I'll keep you posted.

I agree. Also there are clips you can hang visors to. I hope no one is letting their visors to hang on those hinges w/o supports.

I am out of warranty, and I bet the $206 inlcudes the price of the lighted mirror :D . I might try a strip of velcro TM (hidden most of the time .. when the visor is folded up).

will fold up

It folds up and stays against the ceiling but won't stay against the windshield. It flops down. Bud

I attach my RX300 visors on clips and fold them down to block the sun or pin solar windshield cover w/ no problem. If I unclip them to block the sun from left or right side, I just clip them back afterward. Visors are heavy with build in homelinks, it is pretty obvious that they won't last long if left hanging on those hinges w/o support. :uh:
