Default Winter Tires and Rims

Good day,

What are the recommendations for winter tires including brand and tire sizes? Also, what are good winter rims for our vehicles?

I like purchasing based on value but don't mind spending more if it makes a bigger difference.

Thanks.

The Michelin X Ice is a great winter studless snow tire. Might check Tire Rack for a tire and wheel package. When I bought mine they mounted and balanced free and shipping was about $60. At the time it was $150 cheaper than Costco. The tires cheaper than Costco but with Costco you get free rotations, nitrogen and they balance tires at each rotation. About a toss up if you are going to run them 4-5 years.
I have always ran Blizzacks in the past, but now prefer the Michelins....better wear and great on ice and the slickest roads like when packed snow floor gets warm with a wet film. Last winter heavy freezing fog made for black ice on a stretch of freeway. There were vehicles upside down and in the median and mine didn't slip at all.
Consumer Reports does extensive testing so it wouldn't hurt to see their current reviews.

I am going to use my old winter rims from my 3RX. I installed Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV in a 235 65 18. This size is within 0.5% of the stock 20" tires. I had Nokian's before and found them to be very good in winter conditions. They also wear very well.

Default reusing old RX rims for snows

To those adding aftermarket wheels or using wheels from previous RX's what are you doing about TPMS?

I have a set of 18" wheels with TPMS monitors from our past 2008 RX400 that I wanted to put snows on for my wife's 2016 RX350. The 2016 TPMS system indicates individual tire pressure at each wheel but the old system just notified if any one of the tires was low. The dealer has not been able to verify if the old TPMS equipped wheels will work on the new RX350.

Default Size of winter wheels

Hi all, I just decided to buy a set of winter tires and wheels for my 2016 RX350 F Sport. Just wondering if that is possible to use 18" rims on it, cause it originally come with 20" rims.

Correct, you can use 18" rims on it as long as you have the 235/65/R18 size to to match the closest diameter of your original tires (which is in a safe 0.50% diameter variance under the recommended 3%) compared to your 235/55/R20.

Thank you Darith, that is helpful.

That depends on how much you want to spend, and how you want it to look. I just used the stock RX350 rims. I had them as a winter tire package from the 3RX. I had to change the tires to a 65r from a 60r to keep it in spec.

18 inch rims are probably cheaper and easier to get, plus the tires are probably easier to get as well, and more selection. The sidewall is taller and that should be good for the winter.

19 and 20 " rims are going to be more expensive and not as many options for tires.

Thanks for the reply, so for a 235/55R20, an equivalent 18" will be 235/65R18, is that right??

That's correct 235/65/18 is almost the same as your original 235/55/20, taller sidewall but everything important the same.

Check out this web-site. It gives you everything you need to know about fitment

http://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?whee...cl=50mm&sr=0mm

This is my offset and rim width that I have. If you get a different rim width and/or offset, don't forget to change the values in the chart.

Lexus Canada has a winter tire package with 18" lexus rims, sensors and Michelin tires.

I'm getting mine installed next week.

Ask them if the package includes center caps. My package didn't come with them. You can flip the stock ones but I didn't want to chance breaking them. The dealer sold me caps for the winter tire package at cost. They are pricey little buggers.

Parts manager said they come with the wheels. Are there the wheels you got? Lexus Canada and Europe accessory wheels.
