Default Does Voice Command REALLY Work?

I've been playing with the voice command and I am wondering if I am the only person here who doubts that it's ready for prime time. My Comcast Xfinity, for instance, totally understands what I am asking for almost every time...and that was without any voice training to it. What am I missing here? It just doesn't understand me. If I say "Text Message", it takes me to SIRIUSXM channel called "THE MESSAGE". It never works!

Is there a Youtube tutorial? Am I missing something else?

The best thing I can tell you is, you have to tell it what it wants to hear. There is no voice command for "text message". If you have an iPhone, you can use Siri Eyes Free to text. Hold down the off hook button until "Mobile Assistant" pops up on the screen. You're now using Siri through the car, which will allow you to text. Look in your owner's manual for some voice commands. Or try lexusdrivers.com for how to videos.

My GS has a feature to "train" the voice commands to your voice. Does the new RX have that feature? Perhaps that would help? I haven't needed to do that in my GS as the voice command works really well, but as noted above, you have to make sure you are using one of the valid commands listed in the manual.

Like the other poster said, you have to use the exact words on list or it has no idea what you are asking. It is not like Siri where your words are sent to Apple computer to make sense of what you said. The 4RX has a very limited vocabulary.

Even with that I find that most things I want to do are accomplished with ease without using the voice command feature. My Siri functions work quite well.

I guess I need to deploy that "voice training" thing in mine-my God using it today for the first time was absolutely frustrating. I really needed the thing and it failed so much I got a headache after.

If you had a headaches after you likely were yelling in frustration. Just talk in a normal voice like you would to someone sitting next to you. Yelling in an upset voice could be a problem.

Thanks I got to do the training thing today, paying particular attention to talking regular as you suggested-like talking to someone in the vehicle. It works WAY better now. That voice training does matter.

Just like your wife or girlfriend, you need to be soft and sweet, they will not listen if you scream or raise your voice at them.

I tried the training few times, still no luck. This thing doesn't understand a single command. My Camry understands every command.

Disappointed!
