Default Cross-shopping the Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7 -- sell me on the RX

Hi all,

Brand new to the forum.

As the title suggests, I'm looking to buy a new SUV, and have narrowed it down to three models that are all brand new which means I'll have to pre-order something without really knowing that much about it.

Car will primarily be for my wife. We're interested in a smooth and comfortable ride, all the latest safety and comfort technology, a good infotainment system that's easy to use (this is why the Acura MDX isn't on our list any more), and enough space in the rear seat to handle installing and maneuvering two car seats, plus enough room in the "trunk" for strollers, shopping and all kinds of assorted other crap that piles up in SUVs. (5 vs. 7 seats isn't a huge deal for me.)

I've cross-posted this on Swedespeed too, so I'm curious if anyone here has cross-shopped these same vehicles and if so, why they've (conceptually at least) chosen the Lexus.

Thanks in advance!

There are plenty of reviews on 16 rx on car reviews and u tube. Just do your homework and decide for yourself. RX has not released it and almost no board members have tested it out yet. They are comparing this more towards X5 in regards to interior space with a tweaked V6 engine that is most reliable of any car manufacturers as of today. It depends for how long you are keeping your car for? RX has a top re-sale value, you can keep it for 4-5 years and sell it for more then half of its value or keep it for 7-10 years, which almost guarantees you that Lexus reliability, depending on how you maintain your car. No need to pay 3K plus extended warranty in 4 years or so.

Audi? Are you choosing to ignore the huge VW/Audi fraud situation?

People ignore the GM 12 year ignition issue that killed people and buy GM vehicles which is not even close to VW's issue..
Also a GM Gov bailout.

Folks can do what they want. I would not spend $50,000 supporting a dishonest, fraudulent company. (Audi continues to advertise "TRUTH IN ENGINEERING"!)

I'd buy an Audi because I actually like some of Audi's models. In fact I was looking into a Q5 but changed my mind do to an upcoming new generation for '17.

What is your view on people purchasing GM vehicles?

I personally would not buy a GM vehicle. I personally would no longer buy an Audi vehicle. As stated: Folks can do what they want.

I did my research and was going to buy a new S8 last year. I went to the Audi dealer and the dealership was like a Hyundai dealership both in building and salesmanship...horrible. I'd never drop that much money at a place like that. This is where Lexus excels.

I'm in the NYC metro area and there's plenty of very nice Audi dealerships with very good professional sales people in my area.Plenty of dealer competition here.

Surely you'd know which one you wanted?!

RX all day for me, XC90 and new Q7 look ancient IMO

Q7 looks stupid on the outside but pretty comparable on the interior, actually has the RX beat with that full LCD dash. I'll still get the RX though.

I agree, Audi should be shopping around for a new slogan, if they aren't already.

Keep in mind that Cummins, Navistar and Caterpillar have been fined by the Feds for installing defeat devices in their diesels. Same with Honda, Ford and GM (Caddy) in their cars/ Not on the same scale as VW, but the intent was the same. It makes you wonder if anyone's hand are really totally clean.

Lexus definitely set the bar for customer service. The other luxury brands have had to step it up in this area. I recently purchased an Audi and a BMW and both experiences were positive in both sales and service. Both at Lexus levels. It's good for the consumer.
