Help to find car keys
Hello All...I need your expert advise to help locate my 15 RX 350 lexus keys. I have misplaced my key and cannot find them, however I can open my RX 350 doors and start the engine. Does this mean that the key is somewhere close by so that the RX can sense it. Please help ....

If you can start it, there should be a key inside the car.

Thanks JDR76....I looked everywhere inside the car and cannot find it... What would be the approximate radius that the car can detect the keys...what would happen if I drive the car out of my garage and the keys are somewhere close by (outside the car in my garage)..will the engine cut out due to non detection of keys after driving out for few yards ?

If you drive off without a key, the engine will not cut off. You just can't restart it once you turn it off. If it stops detecting the key while running, you'll get an error warning on the dash.
As for radius, the key has to be inside the car for the ignition to work. It's got to be in there somewhere. If the key were outside the car, it has to be within 2.3 feet of a door handle, according to the manual, to unlock the doors.
Another check would be to try to manually lock the door with the door lock switch inside. If it senses the key inside the car, it will beep and won't lock.

JDR is 100% right. If the key is in the car, it won't lock when you touch the locking sensor on the outside handle, and if you can start the car the key is either inside or within 3' away.

Texan,
Please tell us where you looked. I can think of some unseen and clever places the fob can hide. Too bad it doesn't have a beeping locator in it like home wireless phones.
Odd places: In the cup holder to the left of the steering wheel. In the secret compartment below the console box. Look in the seat tracks looking from the rear floor, seat all the way forward. In the first aid kit, or anywhere under the rear deck floor. Good luck.
In a pocket in clothing in the car.Do you have children? Ask them if they put it somewhere.

wow a few days and still can't find it. Do you go to work or anything? take the vehicle with you? If you need to run some errands, do you just leave the car off and unlocked?
