Default Buying used RX, bumper gap looks weird

Hello fellow RX enthusiasts,

I'm hoping to join the RX family soon and found a good candidate to purchase. The car is about 380 miles away, so I'm going off pictures first before I commit to going there in person to see/test it and (possibly) bring it home.

The bumper gap between the bumper and the quarter panel seemed a little awkward. Can you guys take a look and see if it stands out as abnormal to you? Thanks in advance!

Ask for a Carfax report to see if the car was involved in a wreck. If so, how bad was it?

Carfax is clean... no accidents.

What does the gap on the other side look like?

I would take the vin. # to your local Lexus dealer and ask to see if it shows any Lexus body shop history. The service dept. there will see if it shows body repair on their system at any Lexus dealer. Carfax doesn't show everything. It looks misaligned to me and had something done to it.

I thought the RX's have been having bumper gap issues since 2010.

I too feel that the bumper is a bit "off"... the reflections don't line up perfectly.

Is this true? What kind of bumper gap issues? Are these specific to cars from the Canadian factory?

Here is the thread and yes, it affected 2010 Canadian built RXs. It's not an ongoing issue.

This is a 2015 from Canada... I'd imagine that they would have fixed the known issue by then.

I provided the thread so you could see it was a known issue on 2010s built in Canada. Lexus repaired affected vehicles. The 2015 is the third model year of the spindle grill with a different bumper. And Lexus has been building RXs in Canada since 2003. You can check the service history by entering the VIN on Lexus' website. Or call the dealer and ask about the gap. Good luck.

Some dealers (like JM Lexus, FL) routinely remove, repaint, and reinstall bumper covers to tidy-up their better-looking CPO cars to make them quickly pass the First Impression test.

It is, reportedly, within the Lexus guidelines; and does not necessarily mean a coverup or underhanded activity.

You may wish to ask the dealer if that's what they do.

Use it as a negotiating point. Insist on taking it to a third party mechanic or body shop for inspection.

Ask the dealer to inspect the car and determine if it had been repaired as a starting point. If there is no problem, just ask them if they will align it to your satisfaction. Even if the car had been in an accident, there may only be minor damage that has since been repaired. It looks very good to me. Paint match is great.

I wouldn't say there is something wrong there. Mine 2013 looks the same.
You cannot make the gap between the fender and bumper very tight, it will cause movements and friction there when vehicle is moving. It turn, it will wear off the paint and cause rust on the metal.
Look at an aircraft wings when flying. THOSE are gaps!
