Default tire blowout at 1800 miles--need advice

I was driving Sunday on the interstate at around 70 mph in my 2015 leased rx 350 when all of sudden the rear tire sheared off the car. I amazingly was able to steer from the left lane over to the shoulder without dying .I called Lexus road service who told me they would be there in 60 minutes .Another tow truck pulled up and i used his service to get me to the closest tire shop before they closed because I was driving up the mountain afterwards and didn't want to do it on a spare. My question is will Lexus reimburse me for the tow and the new tire?I only have 1800 miles on vehicle. Also I scratched the side of the car on guard rail has I made it to side of th

e road. I have attached some pictures

Hard to say. We had an unrepairable flat tire on our new 2015 RX450h with only 2000 miles, and they would not cover the replacement tire under warranty. Let us know what you find out.

nightdiff, I'm glad you're ok. On tires, the warranty is with the manufacturer. There should be a brochure with the owners manuals. You can also get in touch with your dealer and see what they can do. I had a tire fail while driving on the highway. Mine didn't look nearly as bad as yours. And I know how scary it is being stuck on the side of the highway with cars racing by. Lexus Roadside Assistance came to my rescue. Get back in touch with them about reimbursement for the tow. Worse case scenario, you might have to file a claim with your insurance company. Good luck and keep us posted.

seems like a defective tire to me, or very under inflated. but if that was the case the low tire pressure light should have informed you.

OP, I'm glad you're ok.. The condition of that tire is scary to say the least.

Besides contacting the dealer I would contact Michelin and open a case with them. They will probably ask you for the DOT numbers from the sidewall of the tires so have them ready.

They may even ask you to go to an authorized Michelin tire dealer to have the other tires inspected to make sure they're ok, and may even ask for the damaged tire back (if you have it) so they can inspect it to help them determine why it failed the way it did.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Contact Michelin ASAP at 1-866-866-6605 and ask if you should contact the NTSB.

That looks like a defective tire. I had a similar issue years ago. Eventually all 4 tires failed one by one. It was Goodyear tires and diagnosed as "separation".
