Default Brakes and Rotors

Hello,

I'm thinking about replacing my rotors and pads, as my car has started vibrating at 90k miles.

I would like to flush brake system and replace with akebono pads and slotted/drilled rotors.

Any suggestions on rotors? Any suggestions on good deals or sites to look for parts?

Anything exceptional I should know about change brakes on this vehicle. I have changed brakes and rotors before, so I familiar with the basic principals.

Thanks for any help possible!!

Can't go wrong with OEM rotors and pads! I think having slotted/drilled rotors would increase wear on pads.

Welcome to CL, jham808. We have a sticky thread on top of this forum regarding brake replacement as well a few others. They can be found by doing a search.

I've had both on my track car. Slotted/Drilled rotors do not increase wear on pads because of the level surface and do not have an edge to scrape a pad. The recessed slots and holes actually reduce the friction surface on a street car and also make them more prone to warpage than a full faced blank rotor.
In a race application, slotted and drilled rotors have some merits to help with brake material "outgassing" from a high speed. It is intended on race vehicles to purposely slow down enough rather than full stop and go in a street car.

A rotor is a heat sink for the hot brake pads. The more iron content, the more heat it it dissipates to prevent brake fade.

An OEM rotor or OEM style full faced blank is the best solution for a street vehicle. If looking for an aftermarket OEM style blank..look for one with the highest carbon content for hardness. Centric premiums are very good, but be on the look out for their new 125 series with a higher carbon alloy content.
