Question [Toronto] Recommendations for backup sensor (incl installation) for 2011 Lexus RX350

A friend who lives in Mississauga just bought a 2011 Lexus RX350 and would like to know a good place he can purchase and have installed back up sensors for his SUV. Original Lexus or aftermarket will do though I'm not sure if aftermarket equipment will be better than the original Lexus ones.

For the original Lexus, where can he get it new for less than over the dealership, if at all possible?

He doesn't mind to drive 20-30 km to get the job well done and as long as the parts / labor is reasonable. How long would installation take and how much would shops charge for this kind of work?

Many thanks in advance.

I can only comment that I bought a used 2011 Lexus HS250 which had dealer installed parking sensors, which I think is what you meant by backup sensors. If you are talking about a rear camera to be added to a non-nav model. I do not know anything about that, but again, try the dealer first.

You are most probably right, he was likely referring to the backup sensor as I confirmed he wasn't interested in the rear camera.

Thanks for the advice, yeah, I also asked him to try the dealership where he bought the SUV.

The problem with my dealer installed front and rear parking sensors is that they are not integrated with the vehicle software. There is a green button that lights up every time the car is started and has to be shut off or a very loud beep beep starts screaming at you as you drive off. Once the button is pressed and the light goes off all is fine and the parking sensors do appear to work when needed. Of course, since I got it used I have no instructions. I called the original dealer and they were useless for obtaining information. Since I have Nav with a backup camera, the whole thing is kind of redundant on such a small car where you sit high up.

Thanks Clutchless for sharing your experience with an after market parking sensor. At least now I know what it is correctly called.

Good luck to my friend and whatever he decides on.
