Default 2013 RX 350. CarFax missing maintenance.

Hello,
Im new to this forum and this car, willing to buy 2013 RX 350 with 24.5K miles on.
Carfax shows only one oil change at 5K, nothing else. Car at Mercedes dealer not Lexus.
Should I pass on this one or CarFax doesn't have all records.?
Thank you in advance.

Unless you're getting a really good deal, I would get used from a Lexus dealer with a CPO. I took a chance with a 2011 that missed a few oil changes. But CPOd by dealer. Good luck on the hunt.

Its not a very good deal, just 3.5K below CPO.
I have to be very careful with my purchase, don't have to much money to burn.
Thank you.

Carfax does not guarantee all records. All you need to do is take the vin. # of that vehicle to your local Lexus service dept. and get a printout of the dealer service records. I never buy a used car and rely only on Carfax. If dealer service doesn't provide a service history on a used vehicle then, I don't buy it. You need Lexus service history on that car or don't buy it.

Is there any way to contact the previous owner of the vehicle? The context of my question is around the possibility that this person performed a lot of maintenance over time that he/she may have posted in the "my lexus" record maintained by LEXUS; any owner provided maintenance services do not show up on my lexus printed out at the dealer. In my personal situation, I post every maintenance action I perform in my lexus. If I sold or traded the vehicle I would provide a printed copy of my lexus to potential buyers. I also sample the oil periodically through a private oil analysis company and have those records, which include mileage and date information, available to document my ongoing maintenance. .

I wouldn't worry about it. You will see gaps in records for my vehicles in CarFax reports.
I change my own oil, so it will never show up at the dealer's records.
At 24.5K miles, there's not much maintenance to miss - just 2 oil changes, LOL.
Pull the dipstick and visually check what's in there right now.
BTW, lack of these records will not stop Lexus from certifying it as a CPO.

You can join and log in here https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...ervice/home.do
then enter the VIN as if you were the owner to see the full Lexus Dealer service history, if it exists. If he went to Jiffy Lube instead or did it at home, it may not appear unless the prior owner entered the data.

Also look in the warranty and maintenance book in the trunk or glove box to see if any maintenance was entered into the book.

This is a great suggestion and thanks for the tip. We just bought a '13 RX 350 and Carfax had little information on the service history. We had to have a shock replaced just prior to our purchase on Friday and lo and behold, when I logged onto the Lexus website and entered my personal information, I pulled up our new car and all of its service history through the dealership. Pretty convenient and very helpful.

I had a 2014 Ford F-150 and went to local Jiffy Lube for last 2 oil changes done this year. Neither service shows up on Carfax.

I has my oil changed on my CT200h by a Toyota dealer last month and it shows up on Carfax AND a drivers.lexus.com site.

Not everyone reports to the system that feeds CarFax. What was interesting was that service at a Toyota dealer shows up on the driver/Lexus site. The only strange thing was the name of the servicing dealer was lblank. The Toyota dealer only charged $24.16 total for a synthetic oil/filter change.

...and FWIW, I've never once had one of my Lexi, or even my previous BMW show up with any service records on CarFax when I checked them before sale/trade-in (yes, I go to that personal expense to head off possible questions or comments before I list for sale or go in for negotiation.). I also took my former BMW in twice for cosmetic under-the-front-bumper sand and complete repaint at my expense at a high-end body shop. Only my present MBZ has ever showed on CarFax, and interestingly back to State Farm who I have my insurance policies with -- they see mileage that corresponds to each of my MBZ service reports, as apparently my MBZ dealer is someway connected back to the data flowing to CarFax, but they are blind to my RX450h and to my former BMW that were also only serviced by the original mfgr during my ownership.

My point here... CarFax is perhaps a good check for someone wanting to buy a used vehicle, but it's only as good as what data is reported to them or they are able to someway collect. It's not an absolute, and should never be considered one, just as IMHO, a CPO from any mfgr can only go so far in their guarantees when it comes to what they can physically inspect and find via tools like CarFax themselves for vehicles they accept and then resell as part of their program.

Bert,

Its strange how some cars have full service histories on Carfax and other don't.

Here is the recent history for my just traded in CT200h on CarFax. Service history matches that on the drivers.lexus.com site
