The Toyota dealers around here did the same, they all pointed me to the Lexus dealers. ... who charge $172-185 for just an oil change, rather steep imo. I live in vancouver canada.

So i might just git er done myself, seeing as a jug of 0w20 goes for about $35 here on sale.

I had a fabulous experience with a nearby Toyota dealer. He charged me about $80 for the entire
20k service, vs. the Lexus list price of $184! He did everything listed in the Lexus warranty book, which of course is mostly inspections, beyond the synthetic oil change.

By the way, his charge for the synthetic oil alone was $34...I like the fact they're conversant with Toyota products (obviously), especially the similar Highlander.

He did tell me, however, he can't do Lexus warranty work.

Ha, just saw the above post....looks like we're working on the same info!

I suspect the same would be in my case. The Toyota and Lexus dealerships are owned by the same company and are only a block away from each other. I have less than 400 miles on my new RX 350, so I'll start saving up for the first oil change that I have to pay for!

For some of the most basic service intervals (like the 20k we just did) you can certainly go to
some decent auto service center that is competent and has synthetic oil. Beyond the oil change, our 20k service involved basically nothing other than various "inspections."

does it have to be at the dealer you purchased from? example, if i traveled to ohio and my rx reached 10,000 miles. will the 10k service still be free at an ohio lexus dealer?

I'll be sure to call first. Thanks for the heads up, Bert.

Bert, My Lexus store was Nalley and the Toyota store I use for service is only 5 min away (also Nalley). Your experience must have been where the Lexus store owner was doing a form of price fixing by forbidding his Toyota store from doing the routine maintenance on Lexus models. Now warranty would have been a whole different story. I think a protest could have forced a change in your case but then you wouldn't want someone servicing your car you caused and issue with . Anyway the price differential was almost always better than 50% for the same oil & filter.

Took our RX350 into the local Toyota dealer today for the 15,000 mile service (at just over 18K miles) and the quoted price was $$29.95. I had them change the engine air filter and that added $29.90 for the filter and $15.00 labor to change it for a grand total of $77.24.

We waited about an hour and had coffee, which wasn't too bad for 2 in the afternoon. There were a few pastries left from the morning but I didn't have anything. Overall, we were very pleased with the service and accommodations. We will probably leave the RX for the 20K service and we will see what that costs and what a return visit is like.

I know it's just me but, the thought of someone else changing my oil gives me the creeps. I'm 50 and have a good floor jack & stands and do my own. I realize that not all people here want to change their own oil. I have seen too many screw ups through the years of over fills and filters installed with practically an impact wrench. The thought of some kid fresh out from flipping burgers to changing oil on my car is scary. Just bought a 14 the day after christmas with 6000 mi. and will be approaching the 10k oil change at the dealer. I am not looking forward to the dealer visit that day. Hopefully it will go smooth and I will be checking the dip-stick when they finish.

Here in PA...

Lexus dealer wants $120 full synthetic oil change

Toyota dealer wants $70 for same

Plus the Toyota dealer pointed me to a variable coupon they have on their site which is $10 off services between $50 and $100.

$60 for a 10k mile oil change is a heck of a deal IMO.

10,000 with synthetic 0w20. The maintenance light goes off at 5,000 so you can visit the dealer for donuts while they charge $200 to rotate the tires.
