Aftermarket Carplay= No Go
I have been very excited for Apple Carplay. However, I don't want to have to buy a new car just to get Carplay.
Pioneer and Alpine make some very nice aftermarket systems that can be installed in most cars. I went and picked out the system I wanted and....I found out it cannot be installed in my car.
Since I have the factory Lexus setup with Navigation that uses the mouse, it cannot be replaced with a Pioneer or Alpine system.
What a bummer!
The native GPS in my car sucks. The voice recognition does not understand me. And now I am stuck with it!
Anyone found a way around this?
I have a 2010 RX 350. If I had a car that was only one year older, I think it would have been possible!

I feel your pain. That's why I chose the non-nav model. I chose the 14 model over the 13 because of siri eyes free. Siri understands my voice commands 100 times better than the lexus voice recognition. I read that Hyundai 2016 models will provide the interface (screen, etc) to be paired to a smartphone; apple or Google. The phone will be your navigation. I am hoping Lexus does the same. Paying $2000 for inferior navigation is ridiculous. If you want remote start in a Lexus you need a smartphone. Yes; you read that right. Remote start does not come with a remote anymore. You need a smartphone with the app. Free the 1st year than its costly. So hopefully the 2016 or 17 accepts both Carplay and Android Auto.

Lexipro, doesn't it seem crazy that Hyundai has better technology than Lexus? I love my car for all other reasons, but they really need to be more on top of things with keeping up with technology.
I was wondering if I traded my Lexus in for one with less features if it would then be possible to add in the aftermarket Pioneer or Alpine system- anyone know?

No, it will not be possible to install an aftermarket system even in an RX model with no nav. The reason is that the radio unit and display controls more than just the stereo. For example, if you take out the stock radio/display, the air conditioning will no longer work.

Lexus Champion
Lexus has followed the market trend of making it very difficult to upgrade the audio/video system.
That also helps their bottom line by charging a ridiculous amount of money for a sub-par implementation.
It also influences people to upgrade their vehicles sooner.
