Default Newbie Here! 2014 RX 350

I just bought a black/black RX 350 used with 6100 miles on it on friday. Totally impressed with the vehicle. I bought it from a dealer in the Chicago land area and I live in central Illinois. I'm told that I can get a complimentary oil change from the dealer in my town. I know that they want you to wait until 10,000 miles for the first change.

Does anyone know if they will let me change it a little sooner? It's hard for me to wait that long for the first oil change. I like to change my oil every 5-6k miles. I have always used Mobil 1.

Thanks

I assume yours is a CPO car. Check with the selling dealer and get a print-out of maintenance performed, to see if the oil was changed as part of the 161-point inspection. You can also do this online, I think.
My dealer told me "We like to see the car every 5K, even though the oil change interval is 10K.
To answer your DIY oil question, you can change the oil as often as you wish, but my personal opinion is that it's over-kill. If you are asking if the dealer will give you a free oil change before 10K, the answer is yes. Mine did, and the engine ran much quieter after the free oil change.
BTW, the dealer told me that synthetic oil normally changes to a blackish color after 3-4K, which seems wrong to me, but sure enough, my 0-20 synthetic oil got blackish after 3K.
Glad to hear you're excited about your new baby.

Thanks. Actually it's not a CPO car. It has the remainder of the factory warranty left.

Welcome and congrats, charley95. The dealer should've performed at least a basic inspection. I doubt they changed the oil unless it was close to one year. The schedule is every 10K miles or one year, whichever comes first. I'd follow Ray's recommendation about registering on the Lexus Owners' website to see what was done. It should also give you the in-service date which is when the RX was originally delivered. At least that should give you an idea about how long the oil has been in the engine assuming it hasn't been changed yet. A few members have sent out their oil to be analyzed. Nothing remarkable to date. Every 5-6K miles is a bit of overkill. But you can always do it yourself using synthetic and make note of it on the Lexus Owners' website to protect your warranty. Save your receipts too.

I think I'm going to have to have my buddys 15 year old kid show me how to work all the gadgets.

My last car was a 95 and I have a Jitterbug cell phone. That should explain how greek this car is to me. Oh, and by the way I'm only 50.
