Smile Worth it or Not: 2010 RX350 CPO

Hi guys, Do you think this is worth it?

Not sure if it matters, but it is made in Japan.
Also has the sports package.
Starfire Pearl with decently maintained black interior
87k KM OR 54k Miles

Dealer wants $32,500, which include CPO for two years. The car has full service history.

Considering I paid 35000 for a 2012 with 28000 miles with 3 tear cpo. They wanted 36000. Haggle them down a bit but the 2010 uses high test and that year they had steering column rattles on some which is about a 3000 dollar fix. The sport package is more dough but you have to like the firmer ride. Good luck with your decision.

CPO pricing has a large margin over the original trade-in or buyout. I was on the trade-in side a few times with my past Lexus models, then saw the CPO price on my car listed days later.

'08 IS trade-in: 27K - CPO: 37K
'11 CT trade-in: 21K - CPO: 28K

Screenshot is the blackbook value of a similar RX you're looking to buy (with Sport package despite not showing) in the Vancouver area. Similarly shown is average asking price.

In short, CPO pricing is not "out-the-door" pricing and has a HIGH margin. You can find a fair middle-ground price knowing the trade-in price, margin, and average asking price. Also, "CPO" is still prone to human error so double-check the items they verified is to your satisfaction BEFORE you sign on the dotted line.

Besides price, as hovbuild suggested, check for the steering column rattle. And if it matters to you, early builds did not have the Lamisafe (or laminated) side glass in the front doors. You can tell it's lamisafe by the triple layer cross-section when you roll-down the window or by the bottom-right label on the window. Result is a slightly quieter ride. Good luck!

I think that you could get a bit off the asking price. I recently bought a 2011 RX 350 with 67k kms/approx 40k miles for $34500Can. with one year warranty left and paid extra for extended warranty. Get a PPI done if you want more assurance of a good vehicle. I did and found the ex Ontario(Canada) car had no salt damage and no issues.

Try and get a few extras thrown in such as all weather floor mats and a cargo mat.Check on the dealership rating and the reviews. My dealership Edmonton Lexus came up 5 stars and nearly all the reviews were good.

There were 20 used RX on the lot and I chose one that was rattle free! After 2 months of ownership it still is. Take it for a few test drives. I was not totally impressed on the first drive - it felt too big but this car I liked the more I drove it.

Let us know what you decide!
Cheers, Guy

I think that sounds like a good deal, especially considering it has the sport package! Seems like a reasonable price for good value

Hey guys, I think I might go with this one b/c its got the sports package. I really like the graphite wheel that they come with. I also saw this one with 25k KM less better interior, but $5000 more. It has the touring package.

jst17, the wheels that come with the sport package are cool but the ride is different. I just want you to make sure you've taken both RXs out for a test drive and are not basing your decision on looks alone. The sport package is not for everyone. At least one nice thing about it though is the addition of VDIM. That'll come in handy in the snow.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will definitely look into the steering column TSIB, and bring a independent mechanic to see the car, even though the car has 2 years of CPO.

Ride wise, I couldn't feel that much of a difference as I also test drove the regular rx, probably b/c my current car is an is350. The sales person told me that they tightened the sports' suspension on the 2013+ models?

Also, it seems that sports packaged RXs are pretty rare, so I thought I should try not to miss this one.
However, I'm definitely not in a rush to to purchase.

Oh, BTW it did have a small claim of $900 for a parking lot incident where the car backed into another car. Not sure if that really matters. The car looks pretty new, exterior wise. interior is just ok.

Here is my suggestion: You don't have to trust them. Just get it in writing. There's a form for that. It's called an "I owe you" Get it in writing that they will fix the scrape to your satisfaction before delivery. You're done.

Seems like a fair amount of mileage. I'd investigate that parking lot incident and make sure they fix the front bumper scrapes. Make sure its not an early build as changes were made. Mine has 21000 miles right now.

UPDATE: Pull the trigger. Also received 100k miles/ 160k km Comprehensive warranty. The car's exterior and interior will be detailed, and all scratches will be repaired.

Thanks a lot guys!

I could look at the VIN. It starts with a J so it must be made in Japan, how early is an early build?
