2010 RX350 Light Remind - warning for leaving headlights on
Okay, this is bugging me.
My 2010 Lexus RX350 doesn't perform the complementary dingaling warning when the lights are left on.
Every car I've ever had, and even the Lexus loaners I get, dingaling if I leave the lights on. This car? No.
The dealer is saying this is "by design" because it has auto off lights. That doesn't make sense, since the loaners all ding when I leave the lights on (yes, I checked).
What do I tell them to turn on to make this work the way "all other" vehicles work?
I found something called "Light Remind" in "C Best Settings"
Warning LIGHT REMIND OFF ON/OFF of headlight reminder buzzer ON/OFF
Is this applicable to the 3rd Gen 2010 Lexus RX350?
Also, is there some way I can do it myself?
EDIT: This is in reference to having a warning when lights are in the "On" position. In the "Auto" position, it would seem reasonable that there is no warning. But in the "On" position, it seems reasonable to have the alert.

Doesn't Auto Off mean your lights turn off 30 seconds after the vehicle is shut off? If so, then what the dealer is saying makes perfect sense in thta you don't need warning because you can't leave your lights on.
Loaners may not have this feature and thus the warning chime remains.
You do have the option of programming them to turn off in 30, 60 or 90 seconds via LPS according to your preference.
If they don't turn off, then yes, might be a problem, otherwise consider it one less thing you have to worry about.

FWIW, We don't get headlight reminder chimes in our '11 RX when we have the stick in "Auto" headlights. The car came that way.

I just checked my car. I got in, turned on the lights (to "On" -- no warning chime), closed the door, and waited 2:30... no auto off. Something seems to be wrong with that too, then.
Do you have the chime reminder when in the "On" position? That is what I'm trying to have fixed.

The warning ding is configurable, but the dealer can't do it (ar least on some cars). In Carista, we found a setting that is NOT available in the dealer software, at least for our 2010 RX450h test vehicle. So yes, you can change it yourself with the Carista app for Android. However, it may not ding if you leave the switch in auto mode because that's the whole point of the auto mode - you just leave it that way and you don't worry about headlights anymore.
Furthermore, Carista can change how long you want the headlights to stay on after ignition is turned off, if they're in auto mode. It's called "Coming-home lights" and you can set it to turn off immediately or after some timeout.
See the link in my signature for more info on Carista (or ask here).

Yes, we have the chime reminder when in the "On" position. However, we always leave it in Auto, so I'm sorry, I can't help.
Also, there's nothing in our Owner's Manual in the customization section about silencing the chime. The only time I would not want the headlights in Auto would be when it's raining in the daytime and headlights must be on with windshield wipers in California.

Same rule in Illinois but the daytime running lights satisfy this requirement,

To test the feature, you need to turn your ignition to "ON", then turn on the lights, turn the ignition off, then open and shut the driver's door. The will not turn off automatically if you do as you described.

Starting with 2013 model year vehicles they have done away with this feature. Now the lights no longer turn off on their own unless they are in the "AUTO" setting. The new Lexus vehicles have a warning chime, this is why the loaners make this sound.
Personally? I wish my 2013 GS operated as your 2010 RX does in this situation, and how every other Lexus and Toyota product used to operate...so I wouldn't worry about it.

If you opened and closed the drivers door they would then go out. If you just turn the lights on while the car is off it may not just turn them off.

No, I don't play soccer!
Your best solution is to program the headlights to turn off when the door is opened. And it doesn't matter whether the headlights were turned on manually or left in auto mode. It works the same. If you have nav, it's the nav screen. First you need to turn on the RX. Go into Setup, Vehicle, Vehicle Customization, Light Settings, Headlight Off Time Adjust. Click on it to show your options - off, 30, 60 or 90 seconds. Off is the one you want for them to shut off when the door is opened. Make sure you hit save on the bottom. That's how I have it set on my 450h.
BTW, wipers on, headlights on is law here. If I know I'll be in and out of the RX during the rain, I'll leave the headlights on. They'll turn on when I need them and turn off when I don't. And when the rain stops, I set it back to auto. Works for me.

I've never understood why Lexus doesn't have the headlights come on with the wipers! Both our Jeeps did/do this, my Dad's old 95 Cadillac did this as well...

Hi raylor4, I'm sorry to bug you here, but could you check to make sure it is the lights? I mentioned your car to the dealer, and they said that it isn't the lights that are causing the ding. I didn't really follow the answer, but the dealer is saying it is likely a ding related to the steering wheel lock or something.
Can you just reach in (without getting in or turning the car on or anything), and turn the lights on, and get a ding alert? I can on the loaners, but not on my car.
How this will help me is that I'll continue to look for a solution. If your's doesn't ding, then maybe the dealer's information is correct and the car simply doesn't have an alert. Doesn't make sense to me, but hey, who knows.
Thank you!
Lol. So, sometimes (as others have described), lights on for safety makes sense. But yes, I understand what you mean.
Double lol. Especially because my battery went dead once already because of the lights. I had to call for a jump.
