Default 2010 RX 350 Oil Change O-Ring question

Thru a variety of your great posts...finally purchased at CPO 2010 RX.

I've looked and searched, but can't find an answer to this question. I did an oil change and the new filter was accompanied by two rubber O-rings. The large one clearly fits on the large filter housing. But I have not been able to determine IF or WHERE the small o-ring might be located.

I've put it all back together with fresh oil....but would really like to validate the need on the small O-ring.

Thanks
Ted

Yes, but that smaller bottom piece is mostly worthless. Why? Well, you remove the bottom piece and insert the little plastic tube to drain the filter housing. But, by ignoring that little bottom piece and just removing the housing, the oil dumps out into the pan you have surely placed under it. I change oil when it is cold, so I'm fine. If you are one of those hot oil changers, you may get hot oil on your hand, which may feel uncomfortable. So, no need to use that little O-ring if you don't remove the bottom piece. Plus, most garage mechanics tighten the little piece so freakin' tight that the entire housing loosens when you are attempting to just remove the little piece.

I'm sure you are correct....when I took the drain plug out....must have been torqued to 80 ft/lbs--thought they welded it in place.....and it was done at the Lexus dealer...so I expect that it will be with difficulty that the center plug on the filter housing will come apart.
