Default Headlight switch in Auto and console backlighting

Hello,
In my 2010 RX350 if I put the headlight switch to Auto:
- the backlighting of the console buttons (such as buttons of the audio system), and any other buttons does not come up
-The nav screen is in the day mode, and is very very bright
- All of this when it is really dark outside and inside the vehicle

Is it "normal"?

P.S. If I switch the headlights switch to the next two positions (3rd position - two lights label, 4 and last position - headlights label) - then backlight is on and the nav switches to the night mode

Thanks!

Not normal. Seems to be a problem with the day/night sensor. It is behind the rearview mirror. Take a look if you see anything abnormal. It's possible the fuse is blown but the sensor might be sharing this fuse with other systems in which case you'd notice other issues. Do your rain sensing wiper's work for instance? Check the owner's manual I believe there's a section on the fuses.

Have you tried adjusting the backlight brightness? Its the buttons to the left of the steering wheel. If the brightness is set to maximum, the interior illumination is going to be daytime bright regardless of the ambient light.

Yes today I drove to the dealer and they brought their technician who played with the settings and tried to cover the light sensor and nothing. So he said I have to book a service appointment, looks like something is wrong.

I did try the brightness controls, they only affect the dashboard backlight brightness - there is no backlight of the audio buttons at all the Auto mode regardless the brightness adjustments.
