CPO not offered on 2013 RX with 4000 miles?
I'm about ready to buy a used 2013 RX 450h from a Lexus dealer. It has just 4000 miles CarFax shows it's been a local car only, but it's not being sold as Certified Pre-Owned. The sales person said that there would be no point, since the factory warranty covers as much or more as the CPO would cover.
Other than that, the vehicle appears to be excellent. Should I be worried that it's not certified pre-owned? Will that affect my future trade-in value?

No worries. You are saving the extra money they would have to tack on for the CPO process. If you want an extended warranty later, and while you are still under the Lexus warranty, you can contact Jerry @ Midwest Toyota and get official Lexus extended warranty coverage.

Just bought a 2013 with 5,000 miles, also not CPO. There is no reason to certify it, since CPO warranty is somewhat inferior to factory warranty, and the remainder of the factory warranty is pretty much the same as CPO.

i guess the reason why an RX with 4,000 miles IS NOT a CPO per se is that it's a LOANER car.
you saw the Carfax right?
anyway, i wouldn't be concerned at all, it's still a great car. And as future trade in goes, it all depends on the miles you have and if there's still warranty left.
if you're trading at 30,000-40,000 miles it CAN be a factor, BUT at 70,000 and up, i don't think a CPO will help you.
LEt me be the devil's advocate here, are you comfortable buying a Loaner? an RX that has been driven by a lot of people vs an RX with 1 owner.
At the end of the day, it all boils down to how much savings you're really getting

But having said that, I also didn't like the idea of buying a longer car, so we kept looking until we found a either a 2013 lease return or trade-in. There are not all too many 2013s yet that fall into this category, but if you keep looking and venture out a little bit you can find a nice one.

Don't know what you are trying to say, but it's not the case that loaner cars cannot be certified and are excluded from CPO program. During my search, I saw plenty of loaner cars for sale that were certified, some of them only a year or so old. There was usually only three reasons for a car not be certified: (1) it's less than or about 1 year old with low miles, (2) it's not from a Lexus dealer or (3) it had an accident and could not be certified.

I agree with everyone else. Certifying the 450h is unnecessary and will only increase the price. The RXh doesn't even qualify for the first service based on mileage. But no doubt the dealer will perform it before it's sold. You can ask them to change the oil though it's not required until 10K. But if it makes you feel better...
Hope you were able to grab this 450h before someone else. They don't come around very often.

Follow-up: We bought the RX 450h. Turns out it wasn't a loaner car - it was an early lease turn-in. It's in brand-new condition, we got a great deal, and we're very happy. Thanks to all for your feedback regarding the CPO status.

That's great news. Sign up on Lexus.com to get your service history. And if you want the extended warranty, just remember it's 48K miles or four years from the in service date, not when you bought it The info should be on your purchase order or any service RO. Enjoy your 450h!
