Tri-care warranty offered through lexus
Hello,
I'm looking for some advice regarding the Tricare paint warranty offered through Richmond Lexus (BC).
I have a 2011 RX350 (Obsidian Black). About 3 weeks ago I noticed a very sticky residue on my hood and found out it came from Tree Sap (droppings for the tree was this thick viscous brown goo). It was probably there for some time but I only noticed it 3 weeks ago as my car is black.
I went for my annual paint inspection and the service personnel said they could do nothing to remove the tree sap and that Tricare would not honour the warranty since I should have removed the tree sap before it 'caked on'.
Does any one have any advice for me? I do not think this is my negligence and I take my car through a hand wash every 2-3 weeks.
Thanks, Charles

Unless it has etched into the clear coat, it should be relatively easy to remove with rubbing alcohol. sometimes window cleaner or sometimes WD-40. Etched in yes, difficult to remove. Strange warranty you've got.
A commercial product called Tarminator may work too.

So, you bought a warranty that doesn't cover anything? Lesson here is never to buy any services from the finance guy.
I would call the corp (800-25LEXUS) and complain about the service purchased from a Lexus dealer. Maybe that will force them to discontinue this practice.
Also, if the paint is damaged, you may call your insurance company and submit a claim against comprehensive coverage.

Maybe mention to them that if you had removed the sap before it 'caked on', then you wouldn't have needed the warranty in the 1st place. They should refund it to you at the very least if there is nothing to honor.

You can remove the tree sap with a steamer and a washcloth; put the washcloth over the end of the steamer ( not the kind for clothes, the kind used to clean grout or similar) and it should come off after a few passes. This has always worked well for me although I have seen a couple of time where the sap had been on so long that it actually ate into the clear coat some and left some small etching.
