Can you buy from out of town Lexus dealership and have shipped?
Just curious if you can buy certified pre-owned from an out of town dealership and have them shipped? I am seeing that California has much cheaper prices on Lexus RX's than Oregon. I am assuming this is because there is only one dealership in Portland. I am just trying to figure out if I can use it as a negotiation tool.

Also, say I find something in california. Is there any downside to buying out of state if it is from a lexus dealership and it is CPO? I found the RX I want at Lexus of Woodland Hills and it is $5k cheaper than Oregon, same options and has 7k less miles. Also, could I work through my local dealer to purchase?

I bought my new 2012 Lexus Rx-350 from California, and had it shipped to NJ. It was definitely worth it. When you register your new vehicle,or certified you pay your states sales tax. The shipping to Oregon will much cheaper than to the East Coast.

Problem is, CPO does not guarantee a perfect vehicle in terms of things like finish by any mfgr I know of, including Lexus... Minor flaws and usage in carpet, seats, interior or exterior finish may be possible, or things like tire tread may not be as "new" as you may expect, yet still pass certification. IMO, it would be a devil of a thing to work an issue through with the selling dealer after you receive the vehicle remotely. Personally, I'd probably be OK doing the "buy from a remote dealer without seeing the vehicle" if it was new and I was getting a whopping deal, but not CPO for that reason.

I can say yes on this coz I talked to a dealer in Chicago and they were gonna ship the RX if we went with them. Funny thing is when we bought ours here in indy, it still came from Chicago but from a different dealer.

You are buying a used car ... it is important to fly down and inspect / test drive the car. If you are saving $5k, you may need to spend a few $'s to go an pick it up. But, you can arrange to have it shipped to OR ... a relative of mine spent her entire career moving cars around the country. If you buy in Northern CA, you can just drive it back in one day.

Just like Bert said, it's OK for a new vehicle, but not so for a CPO. It is still a used car and usage varies.
Fly there, inspect it, and then pick it up.
I bought mine brand new out of state and it was a seamless process. They took care of everything, including tax and registration for my state. Temp plates were put on the vehicle for me to drive home and I put my old plates on it after I got my new registration in the mail.
I did not fly, though. I drove my trade-in and went home in a new Lexus.

Isn't cars sold in California have more air pollution equipment than cars sold elsewhere? Since CA has stringet air emissiion laws, you may be paying for equipment you don't need in your state.

I would fly out to inspect it and test drive it because it's a used car. You can then have shipping arrangements made and u can fly back if you dont want to drive it back home. When i was looking for my RX350 some of the CPO's at my local dealers were in worse shape then the ones I saw at any local used car lot. So just because it's CPO means nothing. If you were buying new I'd say go for it sight unseen. Many camaro owners bought camaros out of state and had them shipped and were very happy with the whole proccess.

When I bought my RX in Cali I did fly out there and test it,although they stated that they could send all the paperwork Fedex. The transportation wasn't cheap at $1,400.00, but I still saved thousands off more than the deals in South jersey.
