buzzing sound from under car
hi all,
my 2013 had a buzzing sound like a small electric motor come from underneath the car last night. the problem was that the car had been parked and turned off 5 hours prior to when i heard the buzzing sound. the sound came from near the back of the car, pretty much under where the rear seats are. it sounded like a small electric fan or motor was making the noise. it only turned off after i entered the car and pushed the start button. it didn't come back on after that. i am wondering if it could have been the fuel pump that was making the noise? that's the only thing i can think of back there that would have a buzzing (or humming) sound back there.
thanks in advance!

Not sure if you have a RXh or not. Let us know and I suspect someone more mechanically knowledgeable will be able to give you some ideas. Having owned a RXh since 2005, I've become accustomed to a bunch of odd sounds and things that seemingly come on after I've turned off my vehicle -- all being normal, but I can't say I've ever heard something in the location you cite... always under the hood in my case, and well before 5 hours after I turned it off.

hi all,
i was searching through the forums and i found this:
owner's manual, there's a section titled "Noise from under vehicle after turning off the engine." It says, "Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel evaporation leakage check and it does not indicate a malfunction."
that's probably what it was. as long as the battery still has enough power to start the car in the morning, whatever the car does while i'm asleep is fine with me.
