Warming Up

"Excessive idling can actually damage your engine components, including cylinders, spark plugs, and exhaust systems. Fuel is only partially combusted when idling because an engine does not operate at its peak temperature. This leads to the build up of fuel residues on cylinder walls that can damage engine components and increase fuel consumption."
Google it and you will find pages of articles decrying the act of idling an engine. Some are a bit over the top and the effects were worse with older cars, but in general practice idling is worse than not idling.

I disagree. It's designed so that you can start the car and drive. The number of times a day is not going to have an effect. The vast majority of drivers do not warm up their vehicles. They start it up ans shift to R or D while the vehicle is around 1200 RPM. If it was so damaging, consumer groups would be up in arms over mass transmission failure and you'd have class action lawsuits against every car manufacturer. You're worried about a non-issue and possibly fouling up your engine in the process. There a lot more data to support engine issues with idling than non-existant torque converter issues with a 1200 RPM shift point.

When you read internet sources, some advise to start moving after 10sec., some after 30 sec. some after 1 min warm-up, I personally think 2-min. warm up will not accumulate any deposits esp. when using synthetic oil and good quality gas.
I wonder if there is anything from Toyota itself re: warm-up time(s).
I believe that if the OEM remote start idles the RX for 10 min. before switching off, it should be safe to idle the engine for 2 min. warming it up...
Anyway, the OP asked what other people do , and I answered his question.
