i am in vancouver canada, i have 2010 rx350 bought in oct 2010, the first free service( no oil change) was done on april 2011 at 1600km, now the car is 6000km, i was told by the service advisor your next free 8000km service might not be free($170 for the oil change ) because the first 2 free services should be done within the first year, i checked the owners manual and service booklet, i could not find any words say the first 2 free services must be done within a year, anyone experience the same situation?

The 2nd Free service is at 10,000 miles. That's when you get the ol change.
Yu can bring your lexus to any lexus service center, so don't worry if yours won't budge.

I was told that the free oil change service was supposed to be done by the end of the 1st year, regardless of miles. I had 5,000 miles at that time, and I took it in for the only free oil change they provide. I will not be given any oil change at the 10,000 mile mark.

Wow...I guess I feel lucky. My dealer gave me free service for the first 24 months or 20000 miles.

It is my understanding (in the US at least) to redeem the two free services, you need to do them in the first year. I think you waited too long to get the service and you are now going to have to pay for it. Not a big deal, if the Lexus service amount is more than you want to spend you can take your car anywhere.

Most Toyota dealers can do the factory service and it counts as such for warranty purposes,

We had a 2011 RX that was purchased in the first week of April 2011. When the car had 5000 miles it was just about a year old and when I took it in for service they did a free oil change. When the car was just six months old it only had about 2500 miles so I called and asked th service manager if I should wait until 5000 or bring it in right away. He told me to wait. The car will certainly be almost two years old when it reaches 10,000 miles. I don't know what they will do regarding an oil change since I already go a free on at 5000 miles. However, I intend to find out before I take it in.

^ if they don't give you an oil change on your 10,000 miles, that's ok.
just go with all the visual inspection and tire rotation

the recommended interval is every 10,000.. so you should be changing your oil at 15,000 miles ( we're talking about synthetic oil)

Lexus allows up to 18 months. That is what my dealer told me. I had mine done at 17 months with just under 10k. No charge.

The service is not free, you paid for it when you purchased the car.

I agree with you completely, even the "supposed" free coffee, Wi-Fi and those sweet cookies...
Im sure it's in the invoice too, under accessories.

But going back to the " perceived" free service.. I had my 10,000 miles done on my 14th month of ownership.
The best advice is to ask your service advisor before you reach 12 months of ownership.
Some may argue dealer dependent, but there's nothing on the service agreement that says 2nd FREE/ Complimentary service has to be done within 1 year of purchase.

We normally keep the cars for longer and does not wait for the suggested 5000 miles for the first service and normally would perform one at around 2500 miles and the second one at 6500 miles and then 10000 and stick with the 5000 interval. I don't know if it would help for a better break in but certainly helps.

unless this practice can be backed up with literature which provides evidence of better performance, you're just throwing your money away.
if you're using synthetic oil, which is the recommended one
there's no need to do oil change every 3,000 miles or even 5,000 miles.

Thanks Mark, we have never used synthetic oil in any of our vehicles so far and this is our first Lexus and keep this in mind. Glad I posted and you replied
