2010 RX350 5,000 mile service, is it really necessary?
I have a 2010 Lexus RX350 which I purchased about 6 months ago CPO. I also own a 2000 RX300 and 2008 RX350, all of which are great cars. When I took delivery of my 2010 RX, I was told that it now required oil change intervals of 10,000 miles instead of 5,000. I recently took my vehicle in for the first 5,000 mile service and was shocked that it was nearly $80, and they did not even change the oil! My service advisor also failed to explain to me exactly what they did to my car besides rotate the tires. Does anyone know what the 5,000 mile service interval consists of and are any of these services really necessary? Thanks!

I am not trying to be controversial here, niether do I work in a dealer, but lets be objective, nobody likes to spend money for a"look over and tire rotation"...the $80 charge is probably a 1/2 labor rate and to be honest I don't think it is unfair.
I don't like to spend money like everyone else but the dealers have make a living one way or another,,the tech or mechanic has to get paid, so maybe if you take all the facts into consideration it was not that bad...consider yourself lucky that nothing else was found wrong....

Isn't the first 5k mile service included with CPO purchase? I bought my 2010 CPO last month and I was specifically told that my first service/oil change will be covered by the dealer. I will have to check and make sure after reading this post.

I think you should make a complaint to their higher position manager. I brought my car in for the 16000km service and was charged nearly $450 Canadian dollar. After looking at the what they actually did on that service, I was very surprised those ordinary work would cost that much. So I phoned a few dealers around the area and found out my dealer actually charged me $110 more than others. I went back to the dealership and asked for their GM's contact info. Sent him a complain e-mail that night and he got back to me with my $90 refund and a free fuel system cleaning credit towards anytime I want to use. Moreover, when I brought in my car for the 24000km service, they waived my $120 bill because the GM made a note on my customer profile about me reminding them the price strategy. I don't complain anymore now, but for sure I will still call around to get some price quote before I bring the car in for the 32000km service next time.
