Default Tire for AWD

Is that true if one tire is flat, I have replace the rest of three on AWD. Otherwise, it will cause the AWD break damage. Thanks.

No..
Who told you that? Let me guess he works for good year/ bridgestone.
Just fix the flat tire and off you Go.

The only logical reason to get 4 tires is when you have consumed the life of the tires.
Most tire shop offers the buy 3 get 1 free promo.

^What he said. If I had a flat and the tires are half worn, I usually replace 2 tires to match and avoid uneven wear if the tire is unfixable.

It all depends on the circumferential difference in the tires. If you replace one tire out of four and the other three have been used for a while, it's possible that you may need to replace all 4. Lexus should have a spec on the allowable circumferential difference for each of the AWD cars/trucks. I know Subaru does and it's actually pretty narrow but I don't think Lexus's spec is as narrow. Check with your dealership to be certain.

OK. I kind of thought it might the viscous coupling system getting into a bind but stability control computer is just as a good a reason. Fact remains, it can make a difference.

Yes, I was told by the guy works at Firestone. Just called dealer and confirmed they don't have such kind of requirement. They only recommend to replace 2 tires to match, but again it's not the requirement. I can only replace one flat tire if I want....

Check out the thread here:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-advise-2.html

My conclusion was to replace two tires on the same axle:

My local Lexus dealer service manager said there really shouldnt be an issue with a new tire at 10/32 and a used tire at 5/32 as long as they were the same tread pattern (ie same brand, type) But for additional safety margin he did suggest putting two new tires on the front. But certainly he said it would be a waste of money to replace all four,

Lexus US customer service was essentially useless. After a couple of long calls the guy said it deepended on what state I was in. I said my question has nothing to do with the criteria for rejecting used tires (2/32 wear bar) Then he actuially had the gall to ask me "where in the owners handbok does it talk about not wanting different tread pattersn and depths?" After I helped him thorugh the manual, he went back into Lexus oblivion for a couple more hours and then came back and said "he didnt know the answer to what differential in tread depth was acceptable" but had talked to an expert in Lexus and "there would be no issue for the transfer case even if one tire was sat 10/32 and the other was at 2/32"

So i think I am going to go with 2 new tires - oine with some prorated help from Michelin and the other I will get some prorated IF it shows some internal damge when they take it off.
