Just wonder.. did you just lay the frames on some sort of table and and with some homework on the measurement, use a normal drill to create the holes, one at a time?
Andy, I haven't drilled anything yet. The front has two sets of holes. Only one set matches up to the bracket. It'll probably be easier to drill the license plate to make it fit the other holes. The back doesn't match at all. I will need to measure beforehand. I'm thinking drilling through the back of the frame is easier since I can lay the front flat on a solid surface. And I have to look into drill bits to see what will work.

Anita

This certainly has been an ordeal. Some much hoopla over license plate holders You would think for what you paid for them they would go right on the car. Especially since they were made for the RX.

You are brave.

Good luck.

MEP, then I guess I have to move to Japan to have them fit I'm ecstatic I can get the front frame on without drilling. The rest, not so much. Once they're on, the time and effort will be worth it, I hope.

Changed your mind yet

Once they are on it will be worth it. I think they look real nice. Funny how the front fits but the rear doesn't. I don't think I'll change my mind now. They are plastic so they should drill quite easily. Famous last words.

MEP, can I hold you to that?

Yes, they're plastic. The rear frame is thinner and should be easier to do. The front frame has bump outs on the back that I would need to partially drill into to attach the license plate. Drilling the plate will be easier. The holes are not that far off.

Anita,

I see. The design on the IS JDM frame is similar. One consideration about which side to drill through is whether the paint on the frame will peel off or not..

Default Frames are on!

Well, nothing better to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon than to bring out the power tools I measured and measured again. I used a small drill bit to make the initial holes, then changed to a larger bit. I took my time, maybe an hour and a half overall with the final adjustments. The holes might be off ever so slightly and are not pretty to look at. I will probably go back and make corrections. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the results. I'll take more pictures when it stops raining.
