Default i see the message "oil maintenance required"

So I recently passed 5000 miles and now I see this message on the digital display behind the steering wheel. It's a 10 rxh. I thought we change oil every 10k miles...why is this message appearing?

What the message should read is "service maintenance required" because Lexus still encourages you to go in every 5K not for oil changes, but for tire rotations, alignment if need, topping off all fluids

I thought Lexus provided instructions to do the reset somewhere since they made the change to 10K. I'd be pretty annoyed to see that light on for several months. The dealer is 45 minutes away. I'm going to ask tomorrow when I'm there for an alignment since 10K will be coming up on the odometer in the next month or so.

The "oil maintenance required" was displayed on my '10 RX also. According to the service advisor, it should read "maintenance required" only without the oil. I know it will pop up every 5,000 miles.

Maintenance reminders are reset through the navigation system. Plus there are a couple of blank reminders for you to put important dates, anniversaries, birthdays, etc.

If you are taking it in for an alignment under warranty make sure you state you have a problem with tire wear or etc. I just took mine in and they told me unless I was experiencing a problem they would not do an alignment under warranty. Mine was off just a little in a few areas, they showed me the read out.

Good Luck.

MEP, I'm doing the alignment to make sure everything is ok after all the snow we had and because the roads are deplorable around here. I have a coupon for half off but the dealer is going to do it for free

Getting back to topic, I will verify how to do the reset.

Those that are set thorugh the Navi are very easy to do and update; however, the changes done through the Navi do not effect the reminders associated to the ones by the steering wheel.

I have the ones set on the Navi. Still, at 5,000 miles, the "oil maintenance required" popped up.

Try using this method, but I think more then likely the interval will need to be set using a laptop or some other device.

David, you beat me to it. My SA just had one of the mechanics show me. Turn accessories on, go to trip A on odo button, release, turn car off, turn back on while pressing odo button. Message comes up in the instrument panel display. Done. Apparently the rest of the items in nav under vehicle, maintenance can be reset individually if they pop up.
