The last two tanks in the wife's 2014 RX350 with less than 2000 miles:
185 miles driven 19.9 car reported 16.4 calculated
235 miles driven 16.2 calculated
No long trips. Short commute or driving around town.

Hmmm, It may well be severel variables at play here. First, you may try a "TopTier" brand of gas such as SHell, CHevron, Exxon, Mobil to name just a few (there is a thread on this site discussing top tier gas) and see if this variable just may be the biggest culprit to lower milaege. Secondly, are your remaining variables e.g. sppeed <65mph, hills, a light foot, cargo etc held as constant as possible to prevent unecessary gasoline usage? I know in my prior post, I accounted for these variables adequately to determine that the 27.x MPG was in fact an achieved realistic figure. I would be curious to see if the two largest variables, a lead foot/top speed less than 65 as well as using a 'Top Tier' gass would improve yo

My normal trip is between Florida and North Carolina on Interstate 95, where my normal speed is around 70-75 mph. 23.5 mpg is my average for about four round trips, with same driver and driving conditions on the car that now has 11,000 miles. I have checked the computer readings with actual consumption, and they are the same. My biggest concern came from two of those eight legs that had 21-21.5 mpg consumption, one in each direction. My primary suspition was bad gas. All other variables seemed normal. Can gas quality really vary that much, and can it affect milage that much? I understand ethanol can now be up to 15%. Can that affect it that much, or can other contaminates like water be the problem?

Gas mileage on RX
My winter overall Mpg is also about 17-18 and 22-23 in summer. The gas mileage drops 3-4 mpg in winter. After much research I learned that winter gas formulas are different and causes a drop in gas milage. Also, if you spend gas warming up a car in the winter. I have a remote start and that usually burns another 5 minutes of idle time. Winter tires will also effect your mpg. I have tried all octanes of gas from 87 to 93 with full tank to empty tank tests and never have seen any difference in mpg.
Try a cruise control test on the highway at 65mpg. Zero out the average and see where what it reads.
You might find that highway gas mileage is not as effected in the winter as the stop and go of the city.
Hope this helps.

2014 RX 350 new end Nov 2013. Current mileage 2,885. Just completed 1,600 miles round trip to Portland OR. Overall mpg was 20.9, mostly 70mph driving. (Oregon HP Office stopped me for 67 in a 55 on a 2 lane rural highway-lectured me and sent me on my way & I'm from CA !! Love OR!)

I'm guessing you were polite too, and that's why you got a nice Christmas present in the form of a warning. Congrats on your new RX.

its not only the winter formulation of gas that gives you lower mpg in the cold; you high idle stays on longer to bring the engine up to operating temps faster, so that cuts into mpg as well..
After living in Chicago for most of my life, I am used to that!
BTW, just picked up a 2014 RX on dec 31st..Happy New Years present!

I have 2013rx awd with 5k miles. I have yet to break 15mpg. I am usually getting 14 miles per gallon. An all highway trip on a warm day in November got the 15. I typically make about 200 miles before I get the low fuel light on. The dealer has checked my car 3 times and tells me this is normal and will improve with time. I always use premium gas. This is a big disappointment.

How long is your commute? If it's a very short one, i would'nt expect anything above 20mpg.
I'll try to post my mpgs again.

My one way commute to work is 24 miles. ( mostly LA freeway)
i Normally use the RAV4 EV because of the white sticker which let me drive in the diamond lane ( carpool lane)
at all times.
Anyway, today i decided to bring the RX 350.
trip A was reset to 0
average mpg reset to 0
average speed reset to 0
driving speed was 65-70mph, cruise control when possible ( 45%)
so here's the result: 29.6 mpg
so EVEN if you factor in the difference of the RX posted vs actual calculated, let's say 3.3 based on coachlkg mathematics.
the RX 350, on regular unleaded, still did an awesome 26.6mpg with ( city 20%/highway 80%) driving.
and to answer the skeptics, i'm not driving the RX like a Prius. BUT i don't do a jack rabbit as well.
if i want a Torque Fix.. i have an electric car for that.

Again, this is a regular 2013 RX 350 running on REGULAR unleaded 87 octane ( Costco quality) and 6 speed transmission. ( RX F sport has 8 which helps with fuel economy).
