With the Toyota 3.5 you can get very good MPG if your are easy on the pedal and do a lot of interstate driving.

I average between 19.6 and 20.2 mpg's with my regular driving. I went on a trip to Richmond and that was around 300 miles from my front door to the hotel. Approaching the offramp at the end of my trip I was showing 24.2 mpg. Once in the hotel parkig lot I had the below showing on the computer. If you've ever been on the highways down in that neck of the woods you aren't going to be safe going anywhere under 70mph.




I won't assume you aren't happy and will ask a simple question: "Is there anything other than curiosity for your query?" Nobody buys a miracle in mpg - hybrid or not.

My 2012 rx350 with 4,000 miles shows 19.9 mi per gallon. Most of my driving is a mix of Chicago suburban and city driving. I do have a trailer hitch which probably costs a half mile a gallon. I currently am using regular 87 octane with up to 10 percent ethanol. I do believe the RX picks up 1 mile per gallon if you use premium.

To be fair, the driving I did in my 2010 Prius (51/49) would probably yield a real life # of 41mpg in this temperature. The hybrids are very sensitive to temeperature and driving style. I also had just purchased the car, god knows if it even has the right oil in there. I will probably come in around 24-27 when all is set and done. Still, hybrids sort of get better in traffic where gas cars just suffers

probably not-I drove 5900 miles in 8 month, it would take a lot of time to recoup the cost of hybrid system.

I'd have to spend another $6K, pay tax on it, and finace charges-about $7K extra.
Finance rate would be higher as well on hybrid RX-I am paying 1.9%, it was 3.9% on hybrids.
I spoke to someone who drove RX450h and he told me that he was getting 22 mpg combined 50/50 city/highway, 18 mpg city.

With 3500 miles on mine I took its maiden long voyage 325 miles to Las Vegas....an unbelievable 28.2 MPG with a/C used only part of the time. I use premium gas, but went all the way to 4500 feet over the mountains!!
On the way back I put in mid grade and got 27.7 so lost 1`/2 a mile per gallon!! Impressed, and very comfortable!!

That kind of mileage would be pretty painful at the pump here in northern CA (SF Bay Area) right now. I took my 450h out last night to get some gas and had to use a phone app to find premium at $4.79. Most stations I passed had premium at $4.85 - $5.15 with regular about 20 cents cheaper. These prices are supposedly due to refinery problems (my personal opinion is that suppliers just make less gas and take advantage of prices).

I think that there is a good opportunity for out-of-state 350 buyers to shop here in northern CA right now and get great deals. Don't wait to long because Gov. Brown is allowing the state to switch to winter blend gas ASAP instead of at the end of the month in an effort to bring costs down.

I have found that the Prius can be pretty much be driven normally and still hit it's EPA rating of 50 MPG (at least with the climate here in northern CA). It is one characteristic of the car that I find very attractive; especially in contrast to the 450h. On my 450h, I can maintain my mileage at around 30 MPG (EPA target FWD version). But, it requires tedious adaptions in my driving to accomplish. It is significantly more difficult to get the EPA numbers out of the 450h than the Prius. This is even more true when comparing the 450h to the Prius Plug-in. Driving normally, I can pretty easily get over 120 MPG in the Prius Plug-in.

If you traded a Prius in for the 450h, I think you are going to find it is much more difficult to hit the EPA targets in the 450h. My friend has an AWD 450h and has averaged between 27 and 28 MPG over about 20k miles. I think that should be pretty doable on your car; it may dip a few MPG in the winter in CT.

Just passed 5,000 miles and running MPG average is 21. All-time city vs highway driving is apx 50-50.

Thankfully, regular gas is OK on the '13...

Using the EPA numbers it made sense to buy the hybrid. Purchased the RX450 and I was surprised at how poorly it did. I average 23.5 and that is being easy on the peddle and driving mostly city. I have a 1000 miles on it. When I read the EPA it said it is tested under real world conditions to simulate what average drivers should expect. I cannot understand how some people are getting near 30 miles a gallon. I tried once to really go soft on the gas peddle and coast as often as I can just to see how it would do. I only got 23.7 mpg. This throws all my calculations for gas savings out the window. I keep wondering if it needs to be adjusted. I did read in very cold weather gas mileage can drop but in california it's been warm.

Well as I consume what is probably my last tank of summer gas here in N. CA this year, I thought I would toss out my mileage. I have been driving in suburban conditions in the San Francisco Bay Area. Temps have been in the 80's. If I go on the freeway (which is pretty rare for me on this last tank), I have been keeping my speed down to 60 MPH or so because I have only been going a few exits up the freeway. My mileage has been hovering in the 30.8 to 31.3 MPG range. I have been driving for mileage, but in a reasonable manner. Higher speed freeway driving will knock these numbers down below 30 MPG. But, most of my driving is suburban.

One tip I have found improves my mileage and makes it easier to hit decent numbers, drive in your socks with your shoes off. It is more comfortable and allows you to operate the gas pedal more accurately. Unfortunately, probably not as safe in an accident as driving with shoes.
