RXG, why are you replying to a bunch of threads that are years old?

Default Simple answer

Back in April of this year, 2015, when I looked on this forum for an answer to a question, the older post appeared. Yes, it was old, but it gave me a very good idea what to expect. So my 2015 entry was simply an update for anyone who is considering ordering a new car. Since old messages still have some significance, and a search, points you to those first, why not give a person , exactly like me, a current answer. I realize I was not going to be answering the questioner from back in 2013. My message was directed at someone just like me, in 2015, or maybe 2016. Sorry if you felt my message was stupid, but then I read the old message from sunnygal6 just 4 months ago and found the other answers very helpful. I was originally told in March I could not order a 2015 because Lexus would be re-tooling for the all new 2016 RX. I found that I could indeed order a car in April. Since someone out there is Lexus land probably was the last person to be able to get a 2015 as a special order, I'd love to know how late you actually can order a car in any model year. Even in a re-tooling year.

Just this week I asked a stupid question I already knew the answer to. I asked the sales person if I could special order a 2015 RX 350. He reminded me (since I already knew this) that they are not building the 2015s any more. They're building 2016 stock right now in advance of the impending launch.

So whoever that last person with a special order was, probably placed his/her order a month or two ago. I picked up my new 2015 today (not a special order), and was told that it was one of the last ones to be delivered and had arrived at the dealership last week.

2016s must be coming very soon...

The car I just received last week (Aug 14th) had a manufacture date on the door jam sticker that indicated [6/15]. The 2010 RX450h that I traded in had a manufacture date of [8/10]. So I figure the factory must shut down sometime after the first of August, for a new model year. That is unless a complete redesign requires an earlier shut down of production. I heard this was the case for the Chevy Volt. This may be the case with the up coming 2016 model RX. I felt so fortunate to be able to order my car in April. I saw the new 2016 RX in pictures from the New York Auto Show in the first week of April. I had been waiting anxiously for the new 2016 RX. Unfortunately the look of the new car just wasn't what I had hoped for. It is too radical a departure from my taste for a car. Thank God I was able to order the 2015 in time. I wanted my next car to be loaded with a lot of features the dealerships just don't typically order in the cars they put on their lots. I can report my brand new 2015 RX450h is amazing. It's everything I had hoped. Basically the same car I had for the last 5 years, just better. Better stereo, better leather, better headlamps, Radar cruise control, Heads up display, and my first navigation system. No more placing a Garmin unit on the windshield. Maybe by the time this car gets old I can look for Lexus to tone down the tortured sheet metal, and frankly ugly front end treatment of the NEW RX. New RX sales will certainly reveal whether Lexus has made the right decision on style. I could be totally wrong about average tastes in design these days. Lexus does seem to be selling the new cars which all have the same front end design. Extreme!
