Default What kind of mileage are you getting?

I'm disappointed in my 2010 RX mileage. With a mix of highway and around town, I typically get just a tad over 20 and am filling up between 300 and 320 miles. My 2007 got 2-3 mpg better. I know this is a heavier vehicle, but the EPA estimates are 2 mpg higher for the 2010.

Oh, and what size tank does this thing have? The user manual says it's 19.2 but it always fills up with 15 or so gallons.

People are saying that mileage increases as you get over 5,000 miles. I hope that happens. I actually had a decrease in mileage from after my first few tanks where were at about 22 but then has decreased to the current 20 or so.

the tank size is 19.2 gallons, but when the yellow warning light comes out, you still have 2 gallons. Best to just fill it up when you can though and not wait till the last minute. you never know when you are going to encounter a hill

I've found the the warning light is tied to the gauge that that tells you how many miles you have left before being empty; and that it comes on exactly when it says 20 miles. At that point the gauge is almost at empty. And, when I fill up it takes about 15 gallons or so. There is no way the tank could hold another four gallons (more than 25% of the stated capacity) and still show almost empty.

What's the most number of gallons anyone has ever put in? Anyone put in more than 16?

the RX needle for gas (and temperature) is way too small to look at it incrementally. Just know in the back of your mind that Lexus programs its yellow lights to appear when there are 2 gallons or so left, which is considered the reserve tank, unless they changed it specifically on the RX.

Cant help you here, the RXh tank size is only 17 gallons

I generally fill up when the gauge shows less than half. However, I was on the PA turnpike one time when the light came on and the miles remaining display moved under 20 miles and then stopped showing anything. I thought I was on fumes when I got off and hit the closest station. I could only get 14.8 gallons in, and I topped it up the neck. If the specs are correct, I should have been able to go another 60 miles. I don't have the guts to run it dry just to find out!!

I fill up on 1/2 tank and get 21.9 MPG. I'm good with it - going from a GX470 with a MPG of barely 15. I just hit 3,000 miles today.

When the mpg shows 21 "since refueling" and the cruising range shows 328 then doesn't it make sense that the tank is only about 16 gallons or so? If it was really a 19.2 gallon tank and you get 21 mpg then it should show roughly 390 miles.

So, here's my question. What's the MOST gas you've ever put in your RX? For me, it was almost 16 gallons when the needle showed a touch less than E. I assumed I was darn low at that time and maybe had a half a gallon left.

every car i've ever owned is super conservative when it comes to low fuel warning. it seems to have gotten even more conservative in the last 5 years. i suspect it has to do with litigation. imagine a dummy not filling up when the light came on, got stuck in the mountains some where while driving another 20 miles, froze for 2 days and losing all their toes from forst bite. can you imagine the lawsuit lexus would have to deal with for that 1 in a billion scenario? better to save the dummies from themselves and all the normal people to deal with the minor annoyance of a conservative fuel guage.

i know in one of my cars, i drove for 20 miles after the digital guage stopped reading anything because it dropped under 10 miles for the range. when i filled up, i was still a gallon and half below stated max capacity of the tank.

After 6000 miles, my alltime average is 18.7. I do spend a lot of time sitting at stoplights though. Some tanks (some weeks with lots of highway driving and little traffic) I can get up to 21 on average. Now in the winter, it seems hard getting 18.

The manual says the tank holds 19.2 gallons. I've noticed multiple times that when the warning light comes on, if I fill up right away, I get in 17.2, so it seems programmed to come on with exactly 2 gallons left, not a set number of miles.

We just got a 2010 with 13K (CPO) and are getting 19-20 in a mix of driving. I suspect it might get a little better once th weather warms.

mine's a 2008 rx so not sure it applies here. ideally i like to completely use up every drop of gas in the tank before refuelling -- prefer not to have 'old' gas sitting around. realistically that's not possible without risking being being stranded somewhere. 2008 rx also have a 19-gal tank, and a few occasions i was able to get 18 gallons out of it before topping it up -- mostly i get 17 gallons.
in sequence, i noticed that the yellow warning light comes on first, then the remaining miles meter hits 0. that's when i make a mental note of the odometer reading to go another 10 miles before i decide to pull into a gas station -- that's usually around the 17-gal mark.
over time it's best to figure out what're your driving habits and your comfort level as to when you should refuel.
