Yes, I agree. The first generation seats were super comfortable, second gen were horrible and I find the third gen seats are a little better than the 2nd gen, but not as good as the first gen.

What you call comfortable, some call it lack of support. I guess Lexus cannot please everybody.

I have a 2002 RX300 (first generation?) and 2010RX350. The 2010 RX is much much more comfortable than my 2002 RX. In fact, the only complaint I have about the 2002 is the seat being uncomfortable. I agree you can't please everyone due to weight, height, size, etc.. factors.

Default Seat position

I just returned from a 3,000 mile trio from Texas to California and back. I think I have finally figured out what the problem is with the front drivers seat. I believe the seat is turned in 1 degree to the right. When sitting straight, I am looking to right of hood center. I found myself sitting in the corner by door to get comfortable and having to turn slightly to left. In other words the seat is not parallel to front axle. Can anyone else verify this??

Just went to the New England Auto Show in Boston this past weekend. Sat in a ton of different cars & SUV'S and they all were hard. Most of the seats were not nearly as comfortable as the 3rd gen Lexus RX350. Could it be that auto manufacturers are going away from soft cushioned seats to save money?

I don't know if hard seats cost less to build, but my observation is that the most expensive cars tend to have the hardest seats. MB, BMW, Lexus, and Cadillac come to mind, from my experience.

Its not so much expensive cars that have hard seats, but sporty car. The firmer seats are suppose to give more support. I am not sure why the RX have firm seats since its a soft cruiser.

Everyone who says that the RX has hard seats never sat in the 2010 Cadillac SRX. OMG, it's like sitting on a bench. I totally agree that the first gen was nice, the 2nd gen was plain weird seating. I felt like I was sitting in a bus. And now that I have my 2010 RX350, It's nice, I have no complaints on the seating.....but then again I sat in that 2010 SRX.

One comment I can make about the RX seats is that they do not heat and cool as much as the LS sedans. Not a huge deal, but a clear difference.

As far as being comfortable, try the BMW high bolstered Recaro seats on a long trip. Man. Talk about a chiropractic emergency.

And Luvmy350 has it right, the last gen seats were just plain weird. Kept me from buying last year.

Default Worse than my cheap VW

Took a 4 hour trip with my Wife's new Lexus 450H with the AC Seats. They were absolutely horrible. Butt was sore after 30 minutes. My 4 year old VW has better seats.

What do I have to do, buy a Tush Cush seat cushion for her $55,000 car? Big disappointment - expected better from Lexus!

It's not AC seats, it's ventilated. It blows air to the seat. If it's not comfortable, just turn it off. Will be doing road trip soon and will post a review about it. So far on 1 hr trips, seats are comfy.

If your wife is uncomfortable too, you might consider trading the RX for something else that suits you both better. You'd probably take a bit of a financial hit but you'd be in something that works for you.

Everybody's built different but I find the RX seats as good as any other ones in this category. Wife and I have travelled over 7,000 mi in the last 7 weeks, with several 600 mi days and have had absolutely no problems with comfort. In fact we have commented several times how comfortable the RX is for long trips. Play around with the seats, there are thousands of combinations. Unless you are out of the range in which Lexus designed the seats you can find one position that fits.

A better solution would be for Lexus to have better seats. I have no problems with my VW (at 1/2 the price of the Lexus) and our old 2003 MDX is more comfortable.

We both have problems with the seats and will just bear with it, as we mostly do short trips (which are bearable). I have a Tush Cush on order too!
