Navigation Upgrade

That is nuts! Sorry, but for me Waze and an iPhone 6s Plus mounted with a Proclip mount on the dash is WAAAYYYY more useful, including police, traffic, accidents, road hazards etc.. The Lexus NAV, which I have, does none of that. And Waze is free!! I have a 2010 RX350 and would not pay to update it for 1/2 of what you paid.
However, both apps require internet. (Google map now has offline map though.)
Garmin is another good choice when there is no internet, with about $100, you will have lifetime map update. In my opinion, it is much better than Lexus navigation.
So my personal choice is Google map/Waze > Garmin >>>>>>>>>>>>Lexus navigation.

Well, just got a price from Lexus of Greenville (SC). $375. Wow, can anyone beat that for a major ripoff. I'm thinking of checking other Lexus Dealers nearby and make a road trip out of it.
BTW -- does anyone know if a Toyota Dealer could order and do the upgrade?? Has anyone ever done it that way?
Just curious....

It is outrageous how Lexus demands such pricing for a simple map update. They do it on purpose to gouge the customer. I know it's a luxury marque, however not all of us are so willing to open our pockets for something so frivolous. I like to use the car NAV instead of my iPhone. Anyway, the process of uploading the updated data is done through a dealer-only scan tool (read: you can't do this at home). and done through a USB with said hardware. It's nuts.
What I plan on doing is updating every few/several years to make it worthwhile.

Order the upgrade in Feb this year $186.92 for USB $109.15 to install $296.07 for the upgrade for our 450 h. I asked for the USB stick after the install it is a 8GB stick and yes all the data was off the stick when they gave it to me.
Just updated the NAV DVD in my 2010 Camry for only $155.00

A friend of mine, just upgraded his 09 GS navi with last year's maps for $25 from eBay. I guess we can pretty much guarantee Lexus has this one in the bag with USB updates. Unless, someone knows the steps required to update themselves? I haven't seen the USB maps on eBay either, so guessing they load them as they get requests? Pretty annoying....

I don't know if I've been taken advantage of, but this is story.
My 2010 rx map data prior when I purchased it read v.8.1 meaning 2008 map data.
The newest map data version, as far as I know, that Lexus offers is v.14.1 meaning 2014 maps.
I finally get my vehicle drive away and I see that everything looks exactly the same. I then checked what map data version I had and it read v.8.1.
I went right back to dealer and service rep. Tells me Lexus updates entire system not just data. The data version in car will not change but internally it has been updated. He said there is no way to know if it's updated.
I am bit busy now but I will do some research on this and find out if Lexus of Queens is full of it.
So far if this is what I paid 368 dollars for, it's not worth updating. I'll keep u guys posted

I'd say this is B.S. I recently bought a 2012 RX 350. When test driving it, I noticed the map data version was 11.x (ie. original with the car). I asked for for the latest update as part of the purchase deal. When I picked up the car, it showed version 15.x (ie. latest version). I would definitely go back.

Stupid question, but has anyone gone in and tried some kind of undelete software on this? Guess you still have to have the Lexus software to install it, if one could find the files.

Lexus GPS update cost too much, 600$!

They are robbing!
Even if I buy a new GPS, it would not cost me 200$.
Talked to them many times, they are not negotiable.

Try a different dealer, may be a bit of a drive but who knows. Map updates can be had in Toronto for < $300 (just for reference purposes, I'm not suggesting you drive all the way from Alberta).
