Default What else to replace besides spark plugs

Hi All,

First of all I want to thank everyone for their contributions here.

We replaced our spark plus at 120k miles but 6000 miles later our cel and vsc came on. Turned out p0351 ignition coil a primary secondary circuit. Just our luck that this is located at the back and we have to pay another 3 hours labor to clear the path to the back of the engine.

I intend to replace all 3 ignition coils at the back this time so we do but have to go through this again. I'm wondering what else I should do at this point since the mechanic has already removed a ton of stuff? We intend to keep the car for another 30000-40000 miles?

On top of my head: TB gasket, plenum gasket, manifold gasket, thermostat can be replaced without additional labor.

we are also hearing a funny clattering noise in the engine at the passenger side right after starting but goes away after 10 minutes. Any idea what the part is? I guess it's water pump since it hasn't been replaced.

I have found that adding dielectric grease to the connection point of the coil to the plug eliminates moisture corrosion in the coil. I assume you had NGK or Denso plugs installed.

Yes DENSO OEM plugs.

Any suggestions what to replace when the mechanic is already in there?

Valve cover gaskets if not already done. They may not be leaking now but the clock is ticking.

Do all of those and also: surge tank gasket, intake flange gasket, PCV valve, have your TB cleaned, air filter (if old), and any cracked hoses.

Personally I'd go OEM only on these alongside Toyota Pink coolant. You can save a few bucks buying these yourself but if you're going through Toyota/Lexus, they will no warranty the parts just the labor.

These are all the things (besides the T-stat) I did as most of the top end of my engine was on my garage floor and everything was easy to access and clean. Worth it.

Hi Lexuswiz,

Does this kit contain all the gaskets you and I have mentioned? Or is it overkill?

FEL-PRO HS26321PT

Or are we still missing somethings?

Link is broken on my end so I can't view it, but judging by Rockauto and Fel-Pro, it seems legit. I've had good luck with Fel-Pro for valve cover gaskets but I'd still shoot for OEM.

You definitely don't need head gaskets, unless yours has an issue.

Woah, finally saw it. Way too much for what you need. I think it would be much cheaper and more direct to just buy the individual pieces.
