Default GPS Antenna wind noise?

I've been hearing some wind noise coming from the rear passenger side of my RX330 - thought it might be the roof rack and/or rails - then I decided to tip my GPS antenna forward all the way and voila' wind noise is gone! Too bad though I kinda like the look of the antenna - I guess it's either lower it or crank up my stereo

I have a question about that GPS antenna. My car doesn't have Navigation yet I still have the roof antenna on the right rear. What is it for?

It is just a radio antenna. Lexus felt that it improved reception over a glass embedded antenna.

I suspect the noise is from the roof rails rather than the antenna. I have the original model Harrier and they have the same antenna but don't have roof rails. When I test drove the new RX recently I noticed a slightly higher level of wind noise on the new RX compared to the Harrier, so I suspect it's coming from the rails.

The antenna unscrews, its only finger tight, so you should be able to take it off temporarily and check the difference .....

y'know what - you might be right!? the noise came back even after my GPS antenna was down - I think it's the roof rack - what can be done???? do they need to tighten it or what??

I got in the backseat while the wife drove the RX and the noise is definitly coming from the roofrack or the antenna housing at the rear passenger side of the RX - and it only happens at 70 mph or higher - it's not really a whine or whistle noise - I know this sounds goofy but my wife described it as a "hamster running around" - kinda like a scratchy wind noise - anybody else have this problem?? any solution??

AM I GOING CRAZY???

Default Roof rack noise

My wife's 2001 RX had the rack noise when we first got it. I just kept sliding the cross bars to different positions until it went away. Haven't heard it since.

update: well there's NO particular config of the crossbars that makes it better - but what I have discovered is the "hamsters" seem to be at their worst at 70mph - when I go faster they go away.... - so it's either haul_a** or crank up the stereo.............

looking at ALL the posts about rattles and wind noise there's really no hope to fix it - maybe it'll just go away over time - It's too tempermental to have it in the shop - cause I don't want the dealership tearing and ripping at my baby - heck that may cause MORE rattles and wind noise
