Default Rear speaker modification

Has anybody modified the rear speakers in the door panels (2009 rx350) from the stock 5.25 to fit 6.5's. I think the only reason they won't fit is due to not enough space between door itself and the panel.

Crutchfield lists lots of 5.25 and only two 6.5's that it says fits in the door. I'd bet it can be done with some plastic snipping on the inside ring of the door panel. I have done that to other cars, but not the RX.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. Did that once in an old Chevy blazer I had. Haven't removed the door panels in the 350 yet, hoping it has the wide plastic rings and I can cut them down a bit. Just not sure if the ring is wide enough to fit the 6.5 s
