Need help with maintenance on my rx400
I have a 2008 rx400h with AWD had it since it was 3 years old. Always take great care of it but never changed any transmission oil or differential oil. I have about 78000 miles on it. The local Lexus dealer never mentions anything I looked at owners manual and still come up with nothing. Is there a front and real differential that needs oil changing? if so when? And what type of oil? Thanks for help. I'm planning on the Ecvt to be serviced soon as well can someone shed some light on what needs to be done.

The front and rear transmission can be serviced. If you do a search I wrote up the location of the drain and fill plugs. The method is a drain and fill on both transmission... Front 4 qts of WS and rear 2 qts of WS fluid. The stealerships will tell you it is lifetime, but that is a sales gimmick. The fluid at your mileage will show contamination in the front CVT transmission.

personally I change the tranny oil and rear diff oil about every 30k miles (I like redline). Its just getting dirty at that point, so you could probably go 40k before a change. most maintenance schedules so every 60k miles or a life time fill (BS).

Ok the RX400h Uses only WS Toyota fluid. Do not substitute.. The CVT (constant velocity Transmission) is the front drive and in the rear is a motor/generator gear box. Both Take WS. there is no differential per say. You will see the locations and pictures in the thread above by numbafree. That was my original thread that I started. There is no 75w90 in the RX400h. Sorry my train of thought is crazy this morning. I changed mine at around 87k miles and the fluid was dark brown in the CVT and pretty clear in the rear motor/generator transmission on the rear drive. Have a great day. The fluid runs around $10 per qt and you will be looking at 6 to 7 total for both rear and front drives.

Thanks so much for the information. I can't understand why there's not clear enough mention of any of this in that huge leather folder in the glove box and that the "service advisors" have no idea either. Thanks again..
