Default 2009 RX 350 Maintenance

Hello from Ohio. Thank you for reading my first post. I'm in my early 20's so I don't quite have the cash for a new Lexus. Looking at a 2009 with 74,400 miles on it. I have no doubt that this car would last me for several years. Just wondering what kind of future maintenance I can expect if I decide to buy it. Should I expect to need a new timing belt soon? How much does that run? Thank you in advance for your help.

No need to worry about a timing belt. Fortunately the 2009 RX350 uses a timing chain. Regular maintenance is done every 5,000 miles.

You should register at the Lexus owner's/drivers website. The complete Lexus service history of that vehicle will be there as well as any warranty work or recalls. You will need the VIN to complete the registration.

Check the service history and see if the VVTI Oil line has been replaced or not, if it has not get it replaced and also see if the Oil Cooler line under the passenger side has been replaced or not. These are 2 things I did immediately after having the car. Next is keep an eye on your power steering fluid and any leaks, they are known to leak. Nearing 100k, get your transmission fluid changed along with your differentials oil if you have AWD. Brake fluid is a good idea too at this point.

What is the VVTI oil line? I had the oil cooler line replaced IMMEDIATELY when I bought my RX thanks to some good advice.

There was a recall late 2009/early 2010 to replace a rubber VVTi oil line on the 2007-2009 RX350. You can enter your VIN on the Lexus website mentioned above to see if there are any open recalls. Assuming your car has seen a dealer since the recall came out it as probably fixed already.
