Default RX won't go into gear upon starting

I searched but didn't see anything that looked like this...
I have a 2004 RX with 82,000 miles, well maintained.
Lately the engine will start but the warning lights won't go off and the gear shift won't move out of park. I have to keep turning the vehicle on and off until the gear shift will go in reverse.
It doesn't happen every day but off and on over the past month.
I've had numerous brake light switches replaced which could maybe be the lights, would that affect the transmission too? Thanks.

Plugged in my OBD cable and software, no errors or codes.

I'm not familiar with the brake light switch issue that others have talked about. However if the car doesn't know that your foot is on the brake pedal then the shift interlock won't disengage and you can't get the car out of park.

There may be a small cover next to the shifter to open and manually override the shift interlock. That is designed for towing a car with dead battery (to get it out of park). I'm not sure how the car would react to using that to drive it in your case.

Great idea on the override. Gonna try that before taking it in for service. Thanks!
