Default Annoying rattle from the tailgate? try this

I found out that the tailgate latch moves against the metal hook on the body and it rattles during travel.

I wrapped the metal hook with insulating tape and the sound is gone now. nearly lost my mind trying to find the rattle. ah the sound of silence!

(this is only a temporary solution; i guess i will have to re align the latch or the metal hook permanently)

I found the same thing. My fix was to put foam insulation tape on each side of the metal hook. That kept the rear door snug against the hook.

i remember seeing a hard plastic casing on the hook on a car i dont remember the brand of. Wonder whether I can buy a hook with such a casing so then i wouldnt have to keep changing the insulating tape of if i used foam insulation, the foam tape.

I've never changed the foam tape over 8 years of ownership.

Also, I remember now that some foam tape was put under the little flap as well.

You can see from the photo that tension was put on the tape, which held the metal hook tight to the door.

Thank you I will give his a try. Any pics of the wrapped metal hook? How much tape should I use? Don't want the locking mech to jam

Definitely much better than wrapping the metal hook. You definitely don't want bits of insulation tape clogging the locking mechanism

Are you sure it's the hatch? I've been tackling rattles since November (when I bought it). I did the sway bar links and bushings, insulated the hook for the hatch with electrical tape, tightened the spare tire and found where my missing jack and lug nut bar were (I thought they were missing, but I found them under the bins)... still have rattles. I'm leaning towards the right rear strut or axle carrier bushings. They are the only things left I didn't replace yet... LOL
