Rx330 rear door issue. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't
After owning the truck for a little over a year I figure it's time to fix the little stuff staring off with the rear door. When pressing any of the 3 buttons to open/close it I get it to work 50% of the time. That being said, I can't pinpoint a specific bad part. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks guys!

I have the same problem on my 04 RX330. The rear door doesn't open only when its really cold out which is about 20% of the time. I think its electrical. The button on the dash or remote wont open it. When the weather warms up, then it works fine. Unless the strut is going bad, but if that is the case, then it should stop working altogether and not be able to hold the rear door open.

Yesterday I took the it to Lexus, as I have extended warranty in force, and they said the actuators need to be replaced.
When I first showed up to the service department and told them about the problem, he said the actuators need to be replaced, aren't you glad you have the extended warranty because they are not cheap, meanwhile I am driving a nice loaner with only 7,000 miles.
I am assuming, by the description of your issue, that the actuator for your rear hatch needs to be replaced because it operates based on weather conditions and based on what Lexus said is wrong with both of my side mirrors. If it didn't work at all I would suggest to look at other electrical components.

I had the same problem on a 2010 Rx. Try locking then unlocking your doors via the remote or the all door inside switch on the armrest, leaving it in unlock position then try the rear door hatch switch/s. If mine fails to open I reset as above and then all options to open the hatch work ie the inside switch, the switch on the hatch and the remote fob hatch switch. When it fails to open it acts as if the switches or wiring are disconnected and this reset of the locks does the trick.

Yes 50% of the time on lock open or close. I'll try the lock/unlock to test that out this afternoon. I know it's one of those things that the dealer will start throwing parts at until something works so I'd rather try it myself. Anyone replace the actuator before? Any threads on it?

On my RX it only fails when trying to open, the beeper on the dash switch also sounds but nothing happens. Once I get it to open with a lock unlock cycle it works ok open and close until the next time. There must be an operation that I am activating that leaves the rear hatch itself in lock position.

Got my RX330 back, both actuators replaced ( L & R ). Total cost was $700, discounted rate. If I had to pay out of pocket I would be close to $900. Extended warranty work is at a discounted rate.
